The Creation of Totem Parks in Southeast Alaska

Sealaska Heritage Institute Visiting Scholar Emily Moore gives a lecture--"For Future Generations" Tlingit and Haida Leadership in the CCC Totem Parks. In her talk, Moore explores the New Deal era, when the federal government's work relief program gave way to creation of totem parks in Southeast Alaska. She also screened a recently rediscovered film about the parks made in the 1940s. Her talk was part of the institute's lecture series program.

Great dissertation. I do a tour that includes sitka totem park & I have had a lot of the same questions that you brought up! I wish there wasn't such a divide and gap in the parks use of native history in terms of the poles
