I am so grateful to SHI that this is not only a fantastic opportunity for me as a fiber science scholar to explore spruce root basket making… … but also to observe the distinguished artist Delores Churchill showing the best of gentle prompts to help another teacher find and practice the explanation of subtle fundamental details that build earlier success for students. As someone who values the process of learning and then trying to immediately start building the language and skills to share my experiences with other learners, having such a powerful example of elegant and masterful “teaching the teacher” skill support is humbling and inspiring. From someone outside indigenous American culture who feels deep appreciation for the preservation and invigoration of traditional First American arts, I wish to convey my feelings of respect and gratitude that this video has been made available to the wider global public. where do you get such long spruce roots I never seem to find them that long? You do beautiful work, would love to learn very much.
