Well, this was timely. I haven't done painted leather in a while and I was about to look this up for a new project. This is pretty much how I did it before but I used a wax as my first coat. Good video.

Would this work on car seats ?

Thank you for this video. When you say 10-12 coats that sounds like a LOT! I will try your suggestions making sure to use very light coats.
@DanielReachCreations Жыл бұрын
Those 10-12 go much faster than you would think, especially if they are super light coats.

I appreciate your knowledge. I found through trial and error, that aerosol sealants such as (F-leather sheen and Rust-Ol*um Shellac both recommended) eat the paint off. While they both seal well (after molding) neither are good for paint. I've found that resolene has been the best sealant for exposure to the elements, but it does finish shiny. FYI using Angelus paints. What other sealants could be used, for a more natural look, that works as good as resolene?

No protective mask???
@DanielReachCreations Жыл бұрын
Thats fair. I was outside, but it would still have been best to be wearing a mask.
@BJH-iv6nt Жыл бұрын
@@DanielReachCreations I myself have done exactly what you did in the video, numerous times. Even doing this outside if you can smell it, you are getting it into your lungs. That stuff can cause cancer later.

Instead of aerosol, what is your opinion of tuff kote and leather balm applications?
@DanielReachCreations Жыл бұрын
As long as we're not talking about a painted project, I think they are great. If we're talking about a painted project, I wouldn't use anything that needs to physical contact to be applied. Good question though.
@redslay5 Жыл бұрын
@@DanielReachCreations Thanks, yeah most of projects are combo of fieblings dye and airbrushing model paint. I either get some of the dye taken off or, random spots left behind when using tuff kote. I haven't tried leather balm in a while so my next test is leather balm first and tuff kote 2nd.

Daniel, using Acrylic leather paint (both Wood N’ Stuff and Angelus brands), I freshened up hubby’s leather seats inside his 64’ Cadillac. I can’t imagine aerosol going on (10-12 coats) and sprayed evenly because I can’t take the seats out. I prefer liquid to brush on and read somewhere to use Carnauba Wax. Have you had good experience with any brush on products? Have you tried liquid waxes as finishes to painted leather?

What clear matte sealer should I get?
@DanielReachCreations Жыл бұрын
As far as I know, they are all about the same. However, my go-to sealers are Rustoleum and Krylon. Just make sure its the clear matte.

Daniel, can this same process be used for sealing antiqued projects? When I use the standard finishes on those I always get smears. Also, will these sealers crack with use over time? Can I use them on, say, a wallet that will be flexed in a pocket? Thanks for the videos, I'm learning a lot!
@DanielReachCreations Жыл бұрын
My experience would say that yes, you can use it on any leather project. I've been using this process for 2 years, and haven't had any issues on anything cracking. While I can't promise it wont happen, I can say that I personally haven't had that issue.

If 10-12 coats of sealer is good, how much is too much?
@DanielReachCreations Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm not really sure. I've never reached that point. Its not uncommon for me to seal a painted project multiple times over the course of the project...and each time, I'll put on 10-12 coats.

@@DanielReachCreations Appreciate the reply. Haven't done much with paints so far. Great information!
