I know of an artesian well on the top of a mountain in a saltwater sea. From what I can surmise, the pressure comes from mountains on the mainland to push the water up to ground level.

Not a problem. It is a blessing. Don't fix it. Run a creek, make it narrow. Into it make a water wheel, or thump pump to raise the water.

We use 2 sticks of pvc drop pipe with a k packer between the two as if it were a coupling. Put a well seal on the drop pipe just below the bell and tighten it down once you get it where you want it. Put a male adapter on it, a 90 and a ball valve. The k packer should stop the water flow.

Wish you all were down here in Jacksonville, FL....our 600+ ft free flow well with 65 yr old galvanized started pushing clay water after we just put on a 1HP pump. I think we caved in the 3inch well. We've got a little time since we installed a silt sand tank with auto discharge twice a day. Looks like a new well coming very soon.....

I have a well 286 feet deep that produced 55 gallons a minute in 1985 when drilled. The water level in the well has always been high. A few years ago we replaced our pump and the plumber did not install the last 20’ of pvc pipe stating that it didn’t need to be that deep. Since then the well has been overflowing except during heavy use. Could there be a mechanical reason for this?

Exactly what my set up is. Idk if you remember, you gave me advice about my well motor, said bearings would over heat causing motor to stop. Setting appt with well co in near future. Only happens when high use ,3 or more people shower consecutive or washing machine /dishwasher are used same time. Not a major priority as 2nd /vacatiion home. Ours has a saddle outlet and drains into pipe in ground to lake only 50ft or so away. Ty again!

Once the grout sets up you could just make the casing taller to counter the head pressure I have seen then 10’ high before it stops or 3’

In this situation that wouldn't work. 10ft or more. We went on Friday to install the pump & the flow was so strong that it washed the Grout out from around the base of the casing & it was flow up & out around it about 1gpm & 6gpm out the top. We used a 2" saddle clap/valve on it & piped it to a near by creek & filled the trench with gravel the whole way to act as a French drain. Then we poured a 2ft cement cap around the upper portion of the casing. The nightmare well got worse 😆 but seems to be working with how we did things. Definitely a first in 40+ years of doing this

So how does one install the original casing if the water is flowing up continuously? Does it not wash away the PVC primer/solvent? Or can you just do the process as normal just with water flowing out of the top of the casing as you’re adding sections?

So why not just leave it with positive pressure at the pump. It's not like it's going to flow when all the valves are shut off. Plus if he ever needed water in power outage situation, he would have it. My artesian well has about 20 lbs of pressure with out a pump. It is a blessing.

I recently cleared some land and with the recent rains I now have a 30 x20 area that stays wet. Upon inspection, there are multiple areas that have water running out of them. I cut a ditch to drain it. There is about a 1” core of water that runs from it. I thought about digging a shallow well in the middle and using it for garden irrigation. What do you think?

Actually not that rare in area where artesian aquifer exist. I have a artesian well that has about 10 - 13 pound of pressure at the top. When electricity goes out, I can hook hose to house and have running water in house when electricity is out to house well pump. Not enough for very good shower, but can take a slow shower. And with 15 pounds of head pressure, When I want to run pump, I can get easy 60 lbs with awesome volume to drive large golf course type sprinklers.

@@h2omechanic you're just assuming but it may not take but six feet. Twenty feet wouldnt allow you to put a pump in it but maybe you wouldn't even need a pump that high. Just tap in to the side of the casing and the well would have enough pressure to supply the house. Where at in NC are you? I work for a well company in NC

@@johncuervo3019 near Oxford. I'm in Virginia. This had over 10psi of natural head. 0.5psi per foot =20 ft. County requires a sample port for water tests. So you can't just cap it. Your pipe must exit threw a well seal & the wires must be in a dry electric box. Extending the casing won't work. We used a pitless & it runs into the near by Tar River
@nathanwoodward8877
@nathanwoodward8877 2 күн бұрын
I don't really understand why you are letting the water out to just flow to the creek??? I have a flowing artesian well that has 70psi at the head, and it is sealed off. Instead of running a pump in the well, we have a cistern with a float valve, and we pump our water out of the cistern. I also plumbed in irrigation pipe, so I can water my garden and yard without using a pump at all. There seems to be a lot of wasted benefits flowing into the creek......

Why let the water flow out? Can you not place a larger steel casing around it and mortar it in to stop it?
@h2omechanic
@h2omechanic 3 жыл бұрын
There's no physical way to stop it unless you seal it. But then it will leak through the electric conduits once the pump is installed. The reason why it will always flow like this is simply because of the lay of the land. If the water vein that we hit at 220ft went miles away and the elevation of the slowly went up, you might be 10 miles away & hit the same water vien at 120ft deep but the ground surface is 200ft higher above sea level it wouldn't flow out like this. We've encountered 4 artesian wells in 39 years. All have been in a low areas, surrounded by hills. Typically where a natural spring is near by, which is basically a water vein that's reaching the surface. Veins can run for miles & miles, this vein was 50+ GPM . So the crack in this rock was massive down there, logic says it has to run far enough to be a higher elevation somewhere else. And our well is just a relief area for it now lol. This lot had a natural spring about 1000 yards away, in time that spring might dry up if these veins are connected. But there's no way to stop the flow. The 6" pvc casing could actually be lifted up out of the ground if it was actually capped off. It could have 10psi, or slowly build to 100psi. That's becomes dangerous if you sealed it, bc in 15 years when it's time to service the pump, noone would know its under pressure.

@@h2omechanic thanks for the detailed answer. Seems like such a waste to let good water run away. My well is 360 ft and in summer when oil guys were fracking, pumping from neighbor wells more than could recover quickly. I now have a 2500 gallon storage tank so I don't run out. Any experience with Cycle Stop Valves. Would like to hear your opinion. cyclestopvalves.com Love your vids!

@@turbowarp I don't understand why they don't want a free flowing well with the pump off, and then be able to turn pump on and have high pressure. My artesian well has nearly 20 lbs or pressure without pump. It was put in around 1926. The 4 in. pipe runs up through a slab of concrete, and then there is a big ass concrete block about 2x3x2 poured around it. I guess that was to weigh it down or something. But I ran 2 in. pvc through out yard, with ball valves, and man I can get some kind of water even with no pump. With pump it's like a fire hose. But even when power goes out, I can hook a hose from well to my house, and still have running water. (my house well is separate)
