Beautiful Work! And you displayed an amazing patience ability on your DIY job site. Some semi pro plumber dudes did some drain pipe work on our California Apartment Complex property, a few years back, and left a big area of what looks like "white concrete" surrounding a big water pipe they installed coming out the side of our Apartment building and going into the driveway ground. Since our whole driveway was completely Blacktopped years earlier (and is now dark grey) I wanna try speckling some of this Latex-ite Mix onto the concrete white looking pipe surrounding surface to achieve a "better color blend" on our driveway. By also adding some exterior grade water based latex paint (from Home Depot and maybe their super strong Behr Marquee Paint) for the additional grey colorways, I should be able to achieve a driveway illusion that "nuthin' was up with those pipes". Wish me Luck!

Good job!! I'm doing my driveway, right now, with Latex-ite Ultra Seal. I got the 1st coat on, yesterday. Will finish up today (Weds). It's supposed to rain on Friday, so I'm hoping everything will cure before then. It took 23 cans when I sealed it the 1st time (6 years ago), so I should be using a few less, this time around. I used their patch product in a few areas, their "oil primer" over a few spots where my old truck is parked and a crack fill that you melt with a propane torch. This is a lot of work, but my neighbors had their's done by a contractor and it only lasted 1 or 2 years. My first application gave me 5 years of protection and still looked reasonably good after that time.

Nice video! 🙂 The bucket says 300-500 square feet of coverage. So, going with the lower number, I figured 6-7 buckets would do it. Seeing how lots of reviews said that you need more than what the bucket says, 10 buckets were lined up along the driveway. *IT STILL WAS NOT ENOUGH!* 14 buckets were needed. That was roughly 120 square feet per bucket - on a brand new driveway. Also, I think a second coat is needed. So, another seven buckets are waiting, but I'm not sure if it's going to be enough. Hopefully the second coat is easier, now that the driveway is a lot smoother. I see the comments here recommending using a brush and lightly watering down the driveway first. I tried that. It didn't seem to make that much of a difference with getting better coverage. I do think a cloudy (but not rainy) day might be better. The stuff was drying out in the sun. It's tricky to get it right. You need the right temperature and good weather within a 36 hour window. Sometimes that's just not available. Anyway, I saw a lot of videos about sealing a driveway on KZbin. Yours is more real world. This is not an easy job. The buckets are heavy, it's messy, and it takes skill to make it look even.
@TerenceDIY Жыл бұрын
Everything you said was pinpoint accurate. I learned a lot doing this job. One of the most important things you noted was the need for a second coat. It's absolutely necessary. Thank you so much for watching and sharing that valuable information.
@executiveinvestments Жыл бұрын
This stuff just looks no good. Not nearly fluid enough. You need to start as early in the morning as possible to beat the heat. And you should never stop once you start. You need to finish or you WILL get brush marks all over. Black Jack maxx 1000 is the best sealer I’ve ever used. Thick but not too thick. Perfect consistency. I used 4 buckets on my 2500sf driveway. Took only 3hrs to do. Always use a 36” brush. No squeegee. And never seal if it’s going to rain within the next 24hrs.

Respectfully, from an asphalt specialist, these products are something I would suggest never using... just ask your local paving companies what they think! Most people don’t have tankers and transportation of dangerous goods licenses, so stores can’t sell pure bitumen (highly concentrated liquid asphaltene tar). What they can sell you is acrylics and latex “tar based sealants” that are paint. What happens to your driveway when you paint it is similar to a fence... of course the quantity applied is an influencing factor, but what happens is it cracks and it chips and it causes many hairline fractures!!! These hairline fractures all welcome water to settle in and during freeze and thaw cycles, this water expands and contracts and breaks down the asphalt... these fractures leave unnatural web like cracking (similar cracks to where wheels role over on asphalt driveway with a poor foundation). Each time an asphalt driveway cracks, the size and severity of the crack becomes larger at a more exponential rate (the damage is cumulative). If you want to seal your driveway and actually increase the elasticity, it is important you hire a professional who has the right product. Asphalt contains three core components (bitumen tar, rocks, and sand), over time the bitumen at the top becomes evaporated (making the driveway more brittle and prone to cracking). If you wish to increase the driveways elasticity and it’s appearance, it’s crucial you spend the extra money to hire someone who is spraying on pure bitumen.

Hello Terence, great job. I liked and subscribed as you suggested. - I think the gentleman that suggested moistening the driveway is correct. You used so many buckets because you applied it to a dry driveway. Had you moistened the surface of the driveway the water would have served as a sealer layer for the product to spread evenly. - That said, how many square feet was your driveway. Based on the product documentation, you could have sealed a 9,600 square foot driveway with 32 buckets at a rate of 300 s/f per bucket. - I have 6000 s/f and my driveway is far larger than yours, so I assume you have about 3500-4000 s/f. Is that close to being correct? - Thanks

I kid you not, that stuff smells awful! It is not like paint thinner or anything like that but it has its own distinct odor.
@TerenceDIY5 ай бұрын
It definitely has an odor. It's probably not as bad as others I've used.

looks good, how's it holding up and looking today?

Hi Ron, the winter following me sealing our driveway was the worst in decades and my driveway suffered from the heavy plowing. It held up pretty good for another year after that but currently needs to be redone. Thanks for watching!

I will post one shortly. It looks fairly good, but after having one of the worse snow storms in decades, it will need to be done again to look really nice. You can see how my snow plow shaved some of the sealer off in certain sections. Had it been a normal winter, I think it still would have looked great. Thanks for watching!

Question, 32pails for 2000sq? Why then the Latex ite stating 1 pail for 200-400sq? I am confused. Thanks.
@TerenceDIY4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. Our survey states that our driveway is approximately 2054Sqft. which is inaccurate. Our driveway is a little over 5500sqft. I was averaging around 170sqft a bucket. There is no way you can get 400 sqft out of pail unless the pavement is near perfect.

I agree I used this brand about 15 years ago. It held up really well. Did it again and I was lucky if it lasted a year. Definitely cheapened the product compared to my past experience.
@christopherjacob62093 жыл бұрын
How has it held up?
@TerenceDIY3 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher, the driveway looks decent now, given the fact that we got the worst winter in hearly 40 years here in Chicago after I sealed the driveway. If the winter was a normal one, It would probably look really good. You can see my plow marks all through it now. The good thing is that it will only require half the buckets to do again. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting this video - I plan to use the same product to do my driveway (5,000 sq. ft.) and I am not sure how many buckets I will need. I first thought 15, but I am now thinking more like 25.

@@pablog4852 , I would recommend it although there are better applications now (more expensive though). It held up decent. The following winter after I did this, we got the worst winter in decades. My plow truck left scrape marks throuhout my driveway. I have to do it over soon, and I will probably use the same product. Thanks for watching!

Hows it look over a year after?
@TerenceDIY3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, it looks okay, given the fact, that it endured the worst winter we have seen here in Chicago in many decades last year. I plowed my driveway way more than usual last year and you can see how the plow scraped many sections of the driveway. The good news is that, it still will require much less material to do it next go round. Thanks for watching!

As a professional seal-coater, DIYer, and as a pilot and airport worker...a few things... 1st off... "Airport grade" is meaningless...just words to make people think the product is "special/superior", in some way. Much like "made out of aircraft grade aluminum" being used as a selling point...airplanes are built to be light, not tough! Asphalt is asphalt...whether it's used at an airport, road, parking lot, or a driveway...it's the same stuff! The reason it took so many buckets, is because (it appears) the driveway hasn't been sealed before, or has been a loooong time since it has been done. Every 2 to 3 years is what it should be. 32 buckets, at $20 each, is a tough pill to swallow...$600+. With an "eye-ball" estimate...I'd say that's about a $400 driveway (on the high end) to have done professionally. Depending on your area, price should be in the 10-15 cents per square foot. Personally, I bumped up to 12cents per sq ft. this year. I'll be at 14 next year. I have quoted quite a few driveways where they said "that's cheaper than it cost me to do it myself"!
@TerenceDIY2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing that knowledge. I purchased the airport grade for appearance not durability. Some of the cheaper stuff is brownish looking. I bought this house about a little under a year before I did this. I had to completely do the entire house and the driveway was the last thing to do. It probably hadn't been seal coated in years. I took a private pilots course some years back (nearly finished until an emergency happened) and my brother is a amazing mechanic for American Airlines so I am very familiar with planes, airports, etc.. You are correct, it is a selling ploy. Asphalt is asphalt however, the cheap stuff is watered down looking. I may could have gotten a decent quote, but not $400. My driveway is pretty big. Also, I am VERY PASSIONATE on things I do and how I work and I love it. So, I didn't mind sharing this and showing the product in detail. They sell these products for a reason. Everyone cannot afford a professional seal coater. Especially if you have a small dirveway. Once again, thanks for sharing and watching my content.

How does it look now?? Please show!!! I used same product and had mixed results... 1st yr i rolled it on and was like yours beautiful... but worn down quickly in the drive area....so i read you have to squeegee down for proper results and cover and adhesion and most of alllll Warranty ... so i did and now its flaking and chipping off like 🤬 . So ive done both and dont know but i also used the blue label and same and even worse. Lotta hard work and looks great, please let me know if you still are pleased with look and performance of product.👍👍

Hi, it's hard for me to give my verdict on the product since we had the worse winter in decades this past winter.
