Good example of that pioneer spirit to get a bush and tame it to produce such a jewel in the making. I am sure the labor is sweet at this point knowing the future is bright with that paradise of a scenery to wake up to and the beach a few steps away. Most importantly no mortgage. Sweet sweet labor.

First rule of any welding is get comfortable
@PacificPinesRanch3 жыл бұрын
I tried so hard to make it better but ultimately it was the horizontal position and the weight of everything on my head that made it uncomfortable... not too much at first but after a few hours it I was feeling it. By the time we’re done with the house my neck will be as strong as Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80s lol

One way to save money is using a 4x8 sheet sheared to desired roof and floor strip width. Many metal sellers have shears as do fab shops so no need to cut it oneself.

We converted all the container doors into functioning glass doors in our build. I’ll be doing an in depth video about the process in the near future. Or you can see photos of it on our Instagram page. 🙂

Are you going seal the gap in the middle to the external underside of the containers?
@PacificPinesRanch3 жыл бұрын
Yes we will eventually insulate the bottom which will seal that opening. 🙂
@jonathanescalada15843 жыл бұрын
Question for Jessica, I’m just wondering why you decided to build with shipping containers instead of a traditional stick built home? From what I understand building with shipping containers cost more than a traditional stick built home.
@PacificPinesRanch3 жыл бұрын
I will be doing a video on why we built a container home in the future that will answer this question more in depth. The short version: Container homes can be more expensive than stick built, but they can also be cheaper. It largely depends on the design, location, and how much of the work is contracted out. 🙂
@jonathanescalada15843 жыл бұрын
I’ve been heavily researching building with container homes for the last couple of years in California. I’ve come to a conclusion that their only advantage over traditional stick build is that they can be stacked up to 3 stories high (maybe even higher) quickly to create living space on small lots. Construction Labor, insulation, permitting, mechanical, electrical, plumbing seems more complicated and at a higher cost in my opinion.
@PacificPinesRanch3 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Escalada They have a few more advantages than that such as being fireproof, but I will go through those points in the video I will make.

These videos are awesome. Do you have a video where you discuss the planning and permitting process? I'm wondering what it was like working with structural engineers on the plans...
@PacificPinesRanch2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I’m actually working on a series called “the reality of building a container house”, and in the 2nd episode (which will be coming soon) I am going over permits and engineering. 🙂

@@PacificPinesRanch Awesome! I hope you'll discuss architectural plans and the more design-oriented aspects in an episode as well 🙏I just learned the Containers of Hope project is selling their blueprints and architectural plans for $500. You two could probably do the same if you made a little kit...
@keithhogan69973 жыл бұрын
I imagine it will be revealed in a future video, but did you consider in floor heat? I've seen it under laminate, tile, and concrete. I had never personally experienced it until my 1st time visiting family here in Oregon. It was an amazing experience, especially considering it was late fall when you'd want to at least wear slippers on tile and raised wood floors.
@PacificPinesRanch3 жыл бұрын
We were considering switching to radiant heating but since we already installed the doors flush with the flooring we wouldn't have the space for the concrete/pex piping. We are still planning on doing polished concrete floors but with self leveling concrete so it's only about 1/2" thick usually. :)
@keithhogan69973 жыл бұрын
@@PacificPinesRanch I totally overlooked the doorsills. 🤦♂️ I will be looking more carefully, and for the episode on flooring. Probably more than once. lol Keep up the great work!

Great work, i made same think in my project. But one question, how you get so flat surface, after you cutted out walls? i grindet metal, but it doesn't looked so nice, and clean.

Thank you! We used the grinder with a grinding wheel to make the surface completely flat. Takes some time but it makes welding the containers together easier. 🙂

In your opinion what is the best and fastest method to cut the side walls of the containers?
@PacificPinesRanch3 жыл бұрын
I’d say it’s a tie between the angle grinder and a plasma cutter. I’ll be doing a video in the future of the pros and cons for tools to cut container paneling. 🙂
@adampiasecki74903 жыл бұрын
Plasma is much faster. but you need big air compresor.
