SealSkinz Sporting Glove Review by Wildcraft Britain

A look at the SealSkinz Sporting glove by Andy of Trailblazer Outdoors. This glove is designed for the outdoor sportsman where finger tip manipulation and feel is required. Aimed at anglers and hunters it is also great for outdoor photography. The glove has a high quality supple leather palm and rip stop upper. Made with the SealSkinz waterproof breathable membrane, giving it good protection from the elements. The thumb and trigger finger is tabbed back using magnets, making it reliable and silent, (velcro can pick up dirt, make noise and stick to other garments). This innovation renders overland navigation with a compass impossible, while waring the glove, as the magnets interfere with the pointer. In addition, the manipulation of magnetic sensitive storage devices while waring the glove is not recommended. However, in all the time these gloves have been used in photography and film, (and between the Trailblazer Outdoors staff, thats a lot), they have never affected the internally kept storage on cameras.

I've just ordered a pair of these gloves but with only the 'trigger' finger exposed :) thank you for posting your review of this glove, it really helped me with the decision :) I'm approaching it from a shooter with both guns and a camera so its good to know they'll fit the role I have planned for them :)

Thanks for a great review. In addition if shotgun shooting the magnets will “pick up” an additional cartridge from your cartridge bag / pocket with it dangling from the end of your finger and getting in the way when you load. Same effect when you try and put spent shotgun cartridges in a bag / pocket. A lot better for deer stalking where the magnets are silent in use compared to the older style Velcro fastenings.

Thanks for the review. I was just about to buy these as a cycling glove for the removable finger with my ipod. He told me they were water-proof. I guess not!

hollyvelocitygrl They are all membraned, but the holes left by the removable fingers are, well, big holes :p SO, yep they let water in. The new Sealskinz gloves tend to have finger tips with threads that allow touch screen use- I do rate their cycling glove's, I have a pair.

Trailblazer Outdoors Okay thanks. So the material is waterproof but? (I do prefer the idea of these as they are more dexterous)

hollyvelocitygrl where the tips detach water can get in as they are not sealed against water when closed.

+paul young Yeah, very well. I don't use these gloves much at the moment, (it's just been too hot). My wife has a pair and they get a lot more hammer and put up with it very well. I have had a faulty pair, (another design), and to be fair to SealSkinz they replaced them straight away, so they get full marks for customer service! All told a mid-premium glove thats worth the price.

Hi! I was looking for a pair of gloves to use for outdoor photography and came upon your video. I looked through a bunch of different gloves and this seems to be perfect in terms of price/value. However, I read different opinions about the sizing and unfortunately, I can't check them out in person because no stores sell these near me. Could you provide a bit more info on this aspect of the gloves? Would you tell me what size do you use? What is the size of your hand?

Hi, sizing is a problem. I use large, but I am going to struggle giving you good advice- I am 6 foot tall with about average hand size for my hight. I would say they are about average for a gloves fit to size, but thats probably no great help! This is the problem with the internet wiping out shops, you can't see a product and try it on.
