And loyalty, as well, it was so extreme that when they were filming Lord of the Rings, Sean Astin who plays Sam took it as far as fetching coffee for him, making sure his clothes were washed and folded neatly, and even getting onto some of the crew and others and taking a protective stance on everything to do with Elijah, because he was in character for the entire time they filmed it, as a method actor. He took the whole "Sam is Frodo's undyingly loyal servant" thing to heart and it shows in his performance, the best either of them have ever given.

Well, he did major in English Lit - he just happened to focus on American works. I'm not surprised that, once he read the works and studied them, he really absorbed the themes and motivations behind the story really well. Listening to him talk about Ents really indicated to me that he understood Tolkien as well as any Tolkien scholar. While it might be a stretch for most actors, it is arguable that Sean Astin might be the greatest scholarly authority on Samwise Gamgee alive - he's got both the scholarly background to know what to look for as well as the chance to have lived the part.

One is that the eagles are proud animals and not beasts of burden. Gandalf does not command the eagles he has a working relationship with Gwaihir who does him a few favours. There is also the fact that the only reason they managed to get so close to Mordor was that Sauron and the Nazgul were distracted by the Army of Men at the black gate. If they flew straight there they probably would have been intercepted by the Nazgul or some other servant of Sauron like a Wyrm. It's incredible that Sean was cast to play one of the most iconic characters written in the 20th century. Sam didn't understand the implications of what he was getting wrapped up in. All he knew is that his friend Frodo needed his help. In much the same way, Sean seemed to grasp the gravitas of what it meant to be offered the role of Sam and delivered one of the most iconic performances in the history of film. His portrayal of Sam is beautiful because it's real - it's about loving something bigger than yourself and playing your small part that you believe in.

Sean was a guest at the Cincinnati Comic Expo several years ago, and he did something that will forever cement him in my heart as a fantastic person. There were a ton of fans at his panel with other Tolkien/Jackson actors (I think Graham McTavish and possibly William Kircher), and the line for questions was getting too long for the allotted time. The moderator announced that only 1 or 2 more could be answered, and Sean said (not exactly, but the basic gist): " No. We are going to answer all these people's questions because they paid good money to come here and have a special moment." I just freaking wanted to hug him.

Zoe Kouf For real. If sam would have carried the ring, instead of Frodo, it would have been the other way around
@criseldacayetano8777 жыл бұрын
LOTR needed a Gollum to succeed in destroying the ring. And who let Gollum live in the first place? Yes. Frodo. Not Sam who was so intent in putting Gollum away. Frodo's mercy and sacrifice makes him the ultimate hero. No one is supposed to succeed in destroying it anyway but he saved himself when he saved another's life.
@Paparoulis7 жыл бұрын
