Sean Connery, Iconic ‘James Bond’ Actor, Dies at 90

Scottish icon Sean Connery's acting career spanned five decades, including an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in 1988 for ‘The Untouchables.’ However, he was best known for his portrayal of James Bond; after being the first actor to bring the role to the big screen in 1962's ‘Dr. No,’ he appeared in a total of seven of the spy thrillers. Connery’s wife, Micheline, and his two sons, Jason and Stephane, confirm to ET that he died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family. There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the coronavirus has ended.

@Amanda Charlebois No, you're thinking of his first wife and she never ever claimed he beat her. She said that the pressure of his instant fame from bond was tough on them both and he sometimes got 'physical' with her. That could mean a number of things.

"Diane can't move on from the break-up of our marriage and I have already had to contend with her accusations about me being violent towards her, " Connery said about his ex in 2008 (per Evening Standard). "Now the lies seem to be getting even more vicious and, what is worse, she is dragging our son into it."

I didn't know Sean could sing. That man was full of surprises in a good way. Multi talented too. My parents loved watching him in the James Bond series. I loved his role in Indiana Jones' Last Crusade. He was so opposite of Bond in that role, it was hilarious. A true legend with a lasting legacy.

Connery walked away from Bond in 1967 and 1983, aside from 1971. He in fact never advocated any indiscriminate beating of a woman (his remarks to the now-retired Barbara Walters is more nuanced than is generally recalled). Had Roger Moore been available at the time of the production of Dr No, the world might never have heard of Connery, though the film 'franchise' will likely still have continued.
