Sean Connery interview in 1983 about returning in the role of James Bond in "Never Say Never Again," his seventh and final appearance as Bond. Connery tells why he left the popular spy movie series and talks about his decision to play the role once again after a 12-year absence. He talks about the difference between his portrayal of the James Bond character and that of Roger Moore and describes his own ideas for making a "more substantial" type of film. Connery also talks about an idea for an amusing alternate ending scene which didn't make it into the movie. 🅲🅲 / tvcrewguy

I’m thrilled that this film - talked about as far back as the late ‘70s - became a reality! It was one of Sean Connery’s best performances, and a great relief from what the Eon films had become. When people say, it’s not like Roger Moore’s films, my answer is . . . Thank God!!!

Nah, Roger was the official Bond at that time. This is just a shitty knock-off. Sean should have just stayed away from the role after You Only Live Twice. Diamonds are Forever was shit as well.

There's no way Cubby would have allowed that ; he wasn't best pleased when Roger sent up the Bond image in The Cannonball Run, so a Moore cameo in NSNA would have really sent him over the edge.

Sean would in fact return one final time as 007 when he voiced Bond in the "From Russia With Love" video game. I only saw N.S.N.A. once. Didn't care too much for it but it does have a very odd charm. Edit: Watched N.S.N.A. again, much better than I remember 4 ppk's out of 5

In the 1980s Sean Connery was no longer young. But due to certain makeup Never say never again was when Sean was yet allowed to reappear on screen retaining his youthful look and charm of his prime in the 1960s after which he would start to truly age which is apparent in the 1989 movie of Indiana Jones The Last Crusade.

NSNA was a mediocre film but it had some high points: Klaus Maria Brandauer as the sophisticated psychopath Largo, Barbara Carrera as the mad Fatima Blush, and Sean Connery as an older, experienced James Bond.

I feel like once you've passed the torch as Bond you should never come back. I mean it'd be pretty confusing if Jodie Whittaker regenerated back into David Tenant. I much prefer each Bond to be a separate era instead of someone coming back in between eras.
@TheDylandProductions

Comparing it to Doctor Who is a horrible example, since A) Tom Baker 'came back' as the caretaker (potentially a future, retired doctor) and B) Peter Capaldi made a big deal about 'revisiting some old faces' and C) the Doctor is an alien with a regeneration gimmick. They could easily bring back a former actor as a shock - a sort of time lord Grover Cleveland. It could work. I, myself, would love to see Bond actors be more akin to Doctor Who actors - participating in video games, audio adventures, and the like. Sean Connery came back for the FRWL video game - which was awesome. How cool would it be if all the Bonds likenesses were featured in a video game or something. Unfortunately, we'd have to get an impersonator for Roger Moore's voice. RIP.

Never Say Never Again is not part of the official series. He did return in Diamonds are Forever after George Lazenby took over and left after one film. You can’t really compare Dr Who and James Bond, they are completely different franchises. What Sean did in returning to the James Bond role after leaving the series is highly unlikely ever to happen again, it was just the fact that George Lazenby quit after OHMSS and Sean was still young enough to play Bond again (even though he didn’t look in great shape in DAF).

I think the unlikelihood is what makes this bond special though. Its literally called "never say never again" i think the movie is more of a one time novelty than an attempt to take back the torch, something tenant ALSO did in a later doctor who special after he had already left.
