I actually would join anyone who was up for beating down Combs in public and urging his prosecution after the Cassie video. Whst a monster. But even with this, I'm not sure about the prosecution. Im not sure if Combs did anymore than Hugh Hefner. That is, he ran a roaming riotous house. For me, as a lawyer, RICO often means the Feds can't make a case otherwise. Conspiracy is already a short cut to prosecution. Only needs an agreement, and not proof of the act. RICO allows further evidentiary shortcuts. For ex., the Feds can more easily rope other people in and thereby gain leverage to essentiaĺy coerce cooperation--with less evidence. I also worry about the weight because the Feds selectively released the Cassie video to turn public sentiment. Federal prosecutors love presenting themselves as the most brilliant lawyers but greatly depend on bad reputation to help prove their cases. On top, i doubt the allegations because so much of what the Feds seem to be alleging is just what was seen in that horrific video of Cassie. Feds appear to be just generalizing that incident. I believe Puff deserves prosecution (if statute of limitation allows) , but i hesitate to support out of concern for other blacks. There seems to be a habit of overcharging blacks with RICO. See, e.g., the most egregious use--Willis use against the Atlanta teachers and school administrators.
