Saw the great man playing for Burnley against Rovers at Turf Moor when he was 18 (?) pure class. Thank God Kendall brought him to Everton. I remember watching him make his debut at Goodison with my cousin Phil McNulty and after about 30 minutes Phil said to me, "I don't know why we signed him". I looked at Phil and he added "he's far too good for this lot".

Great interview! Trevor Steven really talks sense. And doing valuable work nowadays. In his playing days surely worth his nickname Tricky Trev, because he was technically so gifted player: real class with his dribbling, passing and finishing. He was also my favourite player in those golden Everton years in the middle of the 1980's. And the Everton team of the season 1984-85 is surely one of the best, if not the best, in the history of Everton: Southall, Stevens, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Van den Hauwe, Steven, Reid, Bracewell, Sheedy, Sharp, Heath/Gray. Super Blues!

Trevor was a great player in a great team at a fantastic time for the club and fans. But I often wonder if the clubs hard times would have happened if players like Trevor, Peter Reid and Gary Stevens had not pissed off when we needed them most. while we were winning games more often than not that was the time that the directors should have been improving the countries first purpose built ground. While I am peeved at the players who left I will always be grateful for the time that they were here. COYBs

Trevor, and the team he was a part of, gave us so many treasured memories. At least people of my age got to experience those days. I really feel sorry for the youngsters and what they have had to put up with in recent times having never experienced such football highs.

I get the football is hard to watch as that last game against Palace was very very poor but if we scrape over the line thatll do for now. At the end of the day hes got us to 30 points with one of the best defences in the league and loads of outside noises impacting what he can do. The last two years we literally only got a few more points from what we are on now and theres still 13 games to go (obviously its not his fault hes had 10 points taken away from what hes managed to do with the team). Whatever happens we need stability as changing managers has been a big factor in why we are where we are and we need a fighter not a Lampard or Silva who want to play football with no spine or heart.
