So I think what happened was Heaslip was holding onto a French player while another French player was holding onto heaslip, so essentially SOB lifted about 300 to 330 kgs here? In the process he also cleared out Dussatoir.

Watching this game as a neutral, that was one hell of a clear out. Watching the game with my England mind in place, I'm worried. Ireland really are looking like a strong side. I'll be watching the Ireland vs England game hoping England come out of it with a win but won't begrudge Ireland a win.

Yeah, but - and some people will laugh me off the page for this - I reckon Haskell is easily up to the challenge. The battle of the flankers will be fascinating, but I genuinely think Hask & Robshaw have the edge - add Billy Vunipola to the mix and the way these three have gelled as a unit, plus the unfortunate absence of Heaslip, and England should win the back row contest.

vonteflon​ I'd personally rather see Easter, as good as Billy Vunipola is, I think he makes a better impact player. Although you do have a point about England maybe having a slight edge. The loss of Heaslip could be a big blow for Ireland. Not that I'd count them out bt any means.

***** Traditionally the ball was meant to be up the middle,not the feeding into the second row that seems to be the norm nowadays.With all the changes in rules that happen every year maybe I missed the one that allows a crooked feed at the scrum.

suffern63 I understand what you are saying. The only thing the ball needs is to do is for any part of the ball to touch the midpoint of the ground of the scrum. That's it. So if you think about it will not appear to be a straight put in, but is legal. Again, even if one end of the ball touches the mid point and roles towards the scrum-half's pack it is deemed as legal. As a prop, I can tell you that there's still a lot of work to be done even with such a put in. Hope that helps?

suffern63 No, I'm merely a foot soldier in the pharma industry. But l have played rugby and front-row since I was 12, I'm 44 now, and still playing. I have played front-row with and against Keith Wood and captained Anthony Foley (RIP) in school. I'm a Munster Branch Affiliate Referee. Any scrum-half worth his salt, can spin the ball, or otherwise, to make the ball travel towards his pack, even if only the end of the ball is on the opposition's side, it's still good.
