Beginning of the '90s... I'll never forget the moment when I bought a Leprosy picture disc in a local record store. 🤗 Fast forward to now, I was fortunate to see Sean live with the DTA project a few years back. I swear, when I saw him setting up for the beginning of the show I felt like a teenager seeing his idol for the first time. 😄 Anyhow, his playing that night was impeccable. It's interesting, my fav Death drummers have always been Sean and Gene, although they are very different players. They both have an individual style and approach, and both fit Chuck's music perfectly.
@dylancaldwell6777 жыл бұрын
Sasa Petkovic I only became a Death fan once Human was released as it was on a whole new level. With Sean and Paul added from cynic their playing abilities made Death a powerful force. Once they lost Sean I think they lost a huge part of their sound and balance as a band. Always thought Sean is/was a way better player and written then Gene. As Gene is held in such praise I don't think he comes close to Sean.
@SasaPetkovic_Bubnjar_Drummer7 жыл бұрын
You know what they say: can't argue taste - in politics and music especially. :) To me, both are extremely proficient technically, but with a different approach to music and what they add to it. From the drumming perspective, IMHO of course, Human is more emotional, while ITP and Symbolic are more aggresive. Gene is an excellent player too, make no mistake. You know Chuck only picked the finest musicians available in that genre at the time.
@Leo-yn5fx5 жыл бұрын
Sasa Petkovic Gene doesn’t come close to how good sean is. Its why Human was so damn good. The drums were just as musical as every other instrument and thats sean’s approach. Genes being technical for the sake of being technical and being as fast he could be.

The problem with today's death metal is every band sounds like every other band. They all do the 300+ bpm double bass drum with 300+bpm blast beats and that's fine for a song or 2 but its every song and every band doing this so its like listening to the same song over and over and it gets so boring after awhile. Bands in their quest for speed have forgotten about the music and writing a good song. The 80s and 90s thrash metal and death metal was so much better than todays metal.
