this guy is the definition of living in the moment, you can be rank #15 taking on the champion for the belt and he knows that all it takes is one moment, although his performance tonight is the opposite. he completely dominate israel but he still keeps it real because he knows that being the champion means almost nothing since the next fight could stripped it off him, just like what happened to israel. dude boosting about defeating alex even though his record against alex is literally 1-3, he got humbled by sean fast

I respect the sentiment thst he says multiple times that the belt "meant absolutely nothin" but his actions and words after he won it tell a different story. I've never seen him so happy to win a fight and he was nearly brought to tears in the octagon.
@danelynch7171
@danelynch7171 Жыл бұрын
Just my opinion but- having the actual belt means very little compared to having beaten the champ. Having won the fight. He did the thing everyone said he couldnt do and it was a proud moment for him. This was the biggest fight of his life and he was focused on winning so hard that when he won, it was just an outpouring of joy for having done it. The title was a part of the incentive, but also beating Izzy, beating the best, proving he belongs at the top.
@osareafallire
@osareafallire Жыл бұрын
There are guys who define themselves by their accomplishments - Triple C, Daniel Cormier, a few others. They're athletes who place winning as the top priority, maybe the only priority. Sean is a fighter. That's what matters to him. Sure, he can enjoy the moment but he does it to fight, not to win. I think his actions also consistently tell that story. When you realize you're THIS good at what you love to do, yes, there's gonna be joy in it.
@closinginonclosure
@closinginonclosure Жыл бұрын
@@osareafallire Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I've definitely heard him say on multiple occasions that he just loves to fight and he "only fights" to spar and go to the gym. Like singing to fight and stepping in the UFC octagon is merely a symptom of his desire to train and spar constantly. He's also not a guy who repeatedly talks about leaving a UFC legacy and seeking glory in the UFC octagon. I definitely understand that part of him. But at the same time, I also have head him say he wanted the belt and even before the Izzy fight talking about bringing the belt back to America and saying he wanted to be champion. So when you boil it down, I wasn't suggesting it's everything to him or something like that. I'm just saying it does mean something to him. You can't get to such a high level if part if you isn't seeking and pushing yourself to be the best in the world. It pushes you to get better. Yes, he loves fighting, but he also does want to be good and rise to the top.

It is a physical representation of the highest honor we can bestow upon you for your work in MMA, Mr. Strickland. It isn't just for you, though. Take a second and think of the thousands of men in promotions all around the world who win a few, lose a few and then they drift into anonymity. They will never see such an honor. Their souls are in your belt, and you carry them with you with the belt. "For the rest of your life, no one can ever tell you that you couldn't do it." That was how Bill Parcells phrased it. It is the greatest honor we can give you, and you deserve it. Carry it with pride and continue to be the champion we deserve and respect. When you carry the belt, it tells all of us--we who will never even come close to such mythic levels of achievement--that anything is possible. If you can do that, we see that we can fight our own battles and win our own championships in whatever we pursue. And finally, congratulations, Mr. Strickland, on one of the finest championship performances; and one of the biggest upsets in combat sports history. (Edit note: Thank you all for the upvotes. It might sound corny, but we need to be thankful for the small blessings we get. It was such a touching moment to watch him win).

This man just proved the impossible, incredible performance. I take my hat off to Sean man, he made it look so easy. I really dont think this was the same Izzy that we've seen take appart the best of the best, not taking away from Sean, like I said incredible prefirmance. 👏🏼 👑

The general consensus about this fight was that Sean stood no chance in actually beating Israel. Especially given both of their performances against Alex Pereira.. in which Sean was brutally KO’d and Izzy the complete opposite ( KO’d Alex). People were looking more forward to the press conference than the actual fight. The same kid whose teacher told him “Sean, You’re the reason why they build prisons”, is now the WORLD CHAMP!! Easily one of the greatest underdog stories in UFC history. Congratulations to Mr. Sean Strickland.

I've been saying this too, this was a Cinderella story if I ever heard one. No other fight compares to this story. This guy was in the right place at the exact right time. He's charismatic and he peaked right as his chance at gold came around. He's truly blessed

@@Captain_Insano_nomercyi feel like the fact izzy lost the first fight to Alex has been overlooked since the rematch but Alex showed that if you get izzy on the back foot you'll have chances to crack him. Sean took what Alex did well and mixed with his excellent distance management and reflexes

Yep, I'm happy for him. No one except his camp gave him any shot to win & he went out there & boxed the brakes off of & dismantled one of the best mixed martial artists ever. Along w/ defense; shoulder rolls, perrying & checks, Imho D'Sean beat Izzy psychologically before this fight ever occurred...& all the pressure was on Izzy, etc. Hats off to D'Sean, outstruck Izzy better than anyone whose ever fought him in MMA, for 25 minutes, in enemy territory & made it look easy (what Izzy said he would do lolz).

Antics aside, you can tell he's a genuinely good dude. He knows when to troll to entertain when the moment calls for it, but this is the side of Strickland that we rarely get to see when the cameras are on.

The last stylebender got bent by a smarter fighter who tweaked his game plan. I think Sean Strickland fooled a lot of people who thought he would come out swinging and would've likely got knocked out by Adesanya but this man outsmarted the one who thought he would outsmart him. Bravo Sean and respect dude, you absolutely deserve to be a champ.

@@BIGFREAKYMAN Com'on now, that was a one fight statement, you are taking things out of context. Each fighter has their own strategy, plan for the fight on hand and possess intelligence when it comes to their personal and professional skill and trade. With all due respect, don't assume things about others.
