While I do agree the call was a few seconds late, you're always going to piss someone off. I couldnt even tell you the amount of times I've seen the losing fighter freak out at the ref for stopping it too early, and when you give them another few seconds to regain a chance to defend themselves then you're called malicious. It looked bad from the angle they showed but when Magomedov was on the ground at the end he was still intelligently defending his face with his arms and hands, he just couldn't get out of the position. I think most fighters would prefer that to the ref who makes early calls, better to take a few extra punches than to have their career potentially permanently altered and their earning potential dimished by a loss from an early call

Reminds me of something Chael Sonnen said once. He said one of the biggest fears of a fighter is running out of gas. This is the perfect example of why that would be. Some fighters get into such phenominal shape that they out last their opponents. I think Sean is in plenty good shape, but the big trick is he gets in your face, then gets you to expend too much effort getting him away, and then he gets you. Now if you can put his lights out before that, which is clearly possible, then you are good, but it ain't easy.

Yea, they're brutal, but he can only throw about 5 of them before he's exhausted.

Folks complain that Strickland only throws straight shots, this is what makes him so hard to hit. There’s no way to beat him to a strike. It’s just adds to his defense. Adesanya relies on wearing people out and countering their round strikes. Strickland doesn’t tire and doesn’t throw shots you can easily counter. It’s not flashy like dans likes but it lets him walk people down like a terminator while they can’t touch him.

Seans ability to keep his opponents from not taking him down the entire fight while being wide open 24/7 blows my mind lol

Easier said then done but I always love seeing a confident fighter allow his opponent to win the first round but gas out. It was super obvious that Strickland had all his energy left. Good fight!

Strickland is calm and stands very talk slowly creeping forward with pressure once he's figured out his opponents! Very good mixed martial art techniques to learn

I'm no ref but starting at 13:23 I had time to yell "stop the fight, stop the fight" at least 5 times over before the ref actually stepped in. I thought it was pretty obvious the fight was over even before that time mark :23 but what do I know.

The ref probably allowed Sean to hit his opponent for a bit longer cuz Magomedov eye poked him in the beginning
