So, I live on the border of Kansas and Oklahoma and the original Twister was filmed all around the area where I live. I was a kid and remember seeing the damage path they made for the movie and seeing some of the actors around town. For a kid, it was a really exciting time. Then I watched the movie and thought it was so cool recognizing the roads and landmarks that I travel and see all the time. It made that movie extra special for me and I still love it. I’m very excited for Twisters. It feels nostalgic even though it’s new. I do however have mixed feelings about seeing the movie. This year was pretty rough and wild with tornados in my area, with a lot of close calls. I’m still excited to see it but it has been a scary year.

Just saw it today. Loved the first one growing up and this one was exactly what I hoped it would be. In my opinion, it absolutely lived up to the original, and in a number of ways, exceeded it. Daisy Edgar-Jones did a great job carrying a lot of the emotional weight of the story and Glen Powell just demonstrates again why he is such a rising star right now. Pure charisma and magnetism and just a fun and entertaining performance. Absolutely plan to see it again in theaters.

I saw Twisters last night and I had an absolute blast with it. As someone who has never been too fond of the original and find it to be very overrated with how much people, especially within the field of meteorology love it, I found this film to be everything I wanted the original film to be and more. The disaster side to it was perfectly silly while also being very real, the characters, their interactions, and the plot were much more interesting and engaging. I cared much more for how all the characters would survive by the end and if their experiment would work. All the scientific wordage was spot on and accurate and the special effects were some of the best I’ve seen from a disaster film in a long time. Overall I gave it a 9/10. It improves on everything that made the original special, but became better than the original because of that in every way.

I can tell the reviewers that are not from the Midwest and tornado alley. I think most people would be shocked to find out that the circus part of Tornadoes is very real. Some people hear warning sirens then grab their keys to go chase the tornado. Then there are tornadoes that people know better than to try to chase. I thought the movie brought that out surprisingly well.

I just got home from watching Twisters. I would also have given it an A-, but the over reliance on the handheld/shaky camera constantly took me out of the movie. Why film something if we can't see it? And no, it absolutely does not give me the sense that "I am there." So, personally, my initial A- drops to a B-.

@@farhannr28 Glen Powell went to the same high school as Sean did... Only a couple years after Sean had graduated. After that, he began to refer to Glen Powell as his close-personal-friend whom he's never met. Then! When Hitman premiered and Glen Powell was inducted in the Texas Film Hall of Fame, Sean got to talk to both Glen Powell and Richard Linklater briefly. Now, the joke is that Glen Powell is Sean's close-personal-friend who he's only talked to for 30 seconds 😂 That's the comprehensive history of the Sean Chandler/Glen Powell lore 😄

I’ve seen the original! So many memories I was like 9 when it came out. Had the VHS. This one was good just left the theater. I thought Glen Powell was very cringe with the girl. She looked like a teenager and he looked old and creepy. That’s the only thing on that side. I didn’t like how she ditched her friend for some guy and the mom just invited him to stay. I think the middle part is the movie lost many people with the drama love story. Those are the reviews I read and they agreed. 7/10

I was actually never a big fan of the original Twister from 1996. I remember my dad got it on VHS. He used to buy movies in VHS from pawn shops when we lived in Colorado Springs from 1996-1999. I think I saw Twister in 1997. I didn’t see Independence Day in it’s original theatrical summer run either. I saw ID4 in one of those $1.50 theaters maybe in early 1997 when the movie was already at least 6 months old. I remember seeing Twister once at home and while I thought it was pretty good, I didn’t think much of it right after. I remember seeing the flying cow and Helen Hunt in a white tanktop a lot. I’ve read that the late Bill Paxton and her didn’t get along while shooting it. My favorite movie from 1996 is Kingpin. Twister was never one of my favorites from 1996 and I haven’t seen it in 27 years back in ‘97. Twister is similar to Deep Impact, Armageddon, and many other disaster movies that came out in the 90s: forgettable. The only disaster movie I like from that era was ID4 and it’s by no means perfect either. Welcome to Earth. Will Smith without a shred of surprise. I can’t stand Armageddon. Why do people like that movie? That Aerosmith song from it would play a hundred times on the radio similar to that Leann Rimes song in Con Air. I have zero fond nostalgia for those songs or for TLC’s “Waterfalls”. Seeing Twisters yesterday, I think it’s better and smarter than the 1996 original. But it’s not something I really want to watch again. Glenn Powell has charisma and he’s probably the next big A-list star. And Daisy Edgar-Jones who is actually British, is quite a babe like she was in Where the Crawdads Sing from 2 years ago. I just didn’t think much of the story. I’m not interested in tornado chasers. They’re just asking for trouble. Overall, I gave it 2.5 stars in my Letterboxd app. 2024 Movies/TV Favorite Rankings 1. Ted 2. Fly Me to the Moon 3. House of the Dragon Season 2 4. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 5. The Boys Season 4 6. Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 (of 3) 7. MaXXXine 8. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire 9. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 10. Bad Boys: Ride or Die 11. Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire 12. The Bikeriders 13. Civil War 14. Horizon: An American Saga 15. Longlegs 16. A Quiet Place: Day One 17. Twisters 18. The Acolyte I’ve never seen Dune 2 and don’t have any urge to. I know that’s what most people will put at No. 1. I found the first one way too bland. As Maggie from deepfocuslens said, she finds these Dune movies very sterile. Extremely slow and boring. The Acolyte might be dead last, but I do think it’s overHATED. Some of the undeserved hatred comes from not only review bombing but people who’ve never seen it. They just parrot what other people say about it and go along with them. Currently rewatching Fly Me to the Moon a second time in the theater. I’m not into rom-coms, but this one I first saw yesterday after watching Twisters, I thoroughly enjoyed. Love the vibe it brings and the 1969 look. The story is actually pretty good. Probably the most fun NASA/astronaut movie I’ve ever seen. Pacing is good. Music is good. ScarJo has charisma and charm like Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan in the 90s. Channing Tatum has grown on me. I’m very much into comedies because it offers the highest replay value for me. I don’t think Fly Me to the Moon is the best movie of the year. It just happens to be my favorite for being so charming and it never feels slow. It has a historic background story that I find interesting for a rom-com. The Acolyte: D Ep. 1: C- Ep. 2: C- Ep. 3: D+ Ep. 4: D Ep. 5: B- Ep. 6: D Ep. 7: D Ep. 8: B- The Boys S4: B- Ep. 1: C+ Ep. 2: A- Ep. 3: B Ep. 4: A- Ep. 5: C- Ep. 6: D+ Ep. 7: B Ep. 8: B+ House of the Dragon S2: B+ Ep. 1: B Ep. 2: A- Ep. 3: C+ Ep. 4: A Ep. 5: C+ Ep. 6: ? Ep. 7: ? Ep. 8: ? I’m hearing from leaks that the Battle of Gullet will happen in Season 3 for House of the Dragon. Too costly. This event happens before the Fall of King’s Landing which happens in Ep. 8 but I guess they will save that battle for later. So I expect Ep. 6 and 7 to be slower paced episodes finding dragonseeds. Then the big finale that should have most people cheering. But I think S2 peaked in action from Ep. 4.
