"Big dumb fun without insulting the audience's intelligence" -- it's not really too much to ask and yet it's something that Hollywood seems to have forgotten how to do. After seeing so many movies resurrected only to be eviscerated before our horrified eyes, I was fully expecting for this movie to be a huge disappointment and was planning on skipping it. I'm glad to hear it sounds like they kept the spirit of the original and I'll give it a chance. Thanks, Dan!

Honestly I was surprised by this movie because I thought I had this movie pined with one of 3 endings. One of them being the guy and girl get together and hook up spoiler alert they don't (I think) that's because I don't think there was any sexual tension between the Characters again (I think) if there was it was not shown on screen or even implied lol.

I think this movie was a massive surprise. Not only was I flabbergasted by the opening, but the overall quality of the movie was excellent. They focused on character and story, while combining thrilling sequences of natural disasters. It's also fun to have a different type of blockbuster other than superheroes or a man with a gun. It gives me hope for the future of blockbusters, and blockbusters that CARE about characters and story. PS. 90s Twister is one of my favourite summer movies, this one is too.

I got to admit that in 1996 I was already 33 years old but I liked the original Twister for the same reasons you did as a 13 year old. That may tell us something about me, or not, but the flying cows, the realistic destruction, and maybe even the melodrama (that I don't remember much) were just great. That same summer MI 1 and Independence Day also came out? Must have been the best summer ever. Big dumb fun? Yes. Good review, as always. Thanks.

I was confused by your beating around the bush about an Actor they wanted to play a certain part. Do you mean they wanted HELEN HUNT to play Daisy's mother? That would have required the script to open up a whole new back story and address Bill Paxton's absence. Might have been distracting. I would have enjoyed maybe a scene where there is a TORNADO CHASER wall of fame in the town square and they show a picture of Bill Paxton, and Glenn Powell mentions he was inspired to chase Tornadoes by Bill Paxton's character. That would have been a nice satisfying connecting Nod.

I think if the characters and plot were written better and the movie was more fun, I could have just enjoyed it. Since it wasn’t, I kept asking questions like, “How dumb are people that live in tornado alley that they need storm chasers to tell them to seek shelter when a tornado is coming?”

SPOILER... It seemed obvious to me that Maura Tierney's role was likely written with Helen Hunt in mind to return. In addition to Kate having access to Dorothy tech from the first movie, she also dressed like Helen Hunt's character throughout the movie. I don't know at what stage the change (if there was one) was made, but it makes total sense to bring her back in that part.

Thats not an insane output, 1-2 a year and its not like he is hopping from franchise to franchise. Twisters is now an IP sure but the other ones are all non IP. He is also generally a standout and people generally like his performances in decently reviewed movies that sometimes even become money earners like anyone but you. so big project participation in maverick, some good choices in movies, can be a co-lead in a money earner for a genre that doesn't usually earn much in theatres recently, and is decently acclaimed, then of course you are going to see him more.

Hey Dan. I just saw Twisters and loved it. But which character are you talking about that you think was earmarked for a returning character from the original? I'm racking my brain but I can't think of who it could have been.

He's 100% talking about Maura Tierney playing the mom.

If I'm not mistaken, there was an interview with Julie Andrews where she said she turned down a cameo, giving the reason it steal attention from Emily Blunt.

This really doesn't even need to be called a sequel. Has nothing to do with the original besides the title font.
