Lovely shanty singing! "Bluff bow" can mean a blunt bow like those on the ships designed for shallow coastal working, e.g. in the North Sea ports, as found on Thames, Humber and many Dutch barges.

The first crew refrain is so similar to Paddy Doyle's boots that when I'm singing along I default to jumping up rather than down at the end of the refrain. I'm a huge fan of what your contribution to the Assassins Creed games and I love this content especially because there's hadfulls of shanties I have never heard before (including this one). Keep forging ahead, Seán

I love these shanties of the week. I recently discovered you due to Assassins Creed and I found your album with La Nef. Sea Shanties are a different type of music and listening to your work has gotten me through one of the worst times of my life. I am very grateful for work and I look forward to more shanty of the weeks.

Michiel Schrey sang with us for most of the AC4 recordings. He has a distinctive voice that is perfect for this repertoire, as well as many others. He is on the La Nef album with us Sea Songs & Shanties.

Great shanty of the week! What is the name of that instrument behind you, that uses only half the fretboard?
@SeanDagher
@SeanDagher 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand "uses half the fretboard". The instruments in this video are (left to right) Irish bouzouki (Tobin LBB 2018), Irish bouzouki (Foley 2000), and banjola (Pollman style 1978).
@vikingseagull2575
@vikingseagull2575 4 жыл бұрын
@@SeanDagher Sorry, what I meant was the banjola. It seems really cool! Do you plan on playing instruments in future videos?
@SeanDagher
@SeanDagher 4 жыл бұрын
@@vikingseagull2575 The banjola is pretty cool. It's a cross between Irish bouzouki/mandola and 5-string banjo. It sounds great for finger style banjo playing but doesn't work as well for clawhammer. When I have been through all of the shanties that I like I will start doing general folk songs. I will play the instruments for those. In the mean time you can hear me playing either with Skye Consort & Emma Björling or with La Nef.
