In British English spunk has the same meaning it has for you Sean but for most of us in the UK spunk is an overwhelmingly popular slang alternative for semen. It might be comical to use the words 'lick' and 'spunk' in the same guitar playing tutorial. Stand proud and continue.

Why does B minor pentatonic work after A7 in the key of D ? Pardon my ignorance

If you are only using notes in the key of D, B is the 6th note and the B triad has to be minor. B minor pentatonic is "contained" within the B minor scale, and there is a wealth of blues licks that use the minor pentatonic, for you to explore and exploit!

The A7 is the V chord. So it's in the key of D major. You can play minor pentatonic off the ii, iii or vi so E Minor pentatonic and F# Minor will also fit.
