Now I strum the whole chord maybe once or twice on the beat in the chorus. And this is the secret sauce I've been waiting for. Love you Sean. I practised this for a few days came back to thank you!

Aw man anchors are the shit just gotta know when to use one and when not. A good ole palm mute can work as a reference point slash anchor as well! Anchoring do an actual string versus the body also gives you a more "informative " anchor point. Really only time they're not good is when your smashing 5000 notes a minute alternate style! Or sweeping.

Hey there, I'm a newbie guitar player, and I've noticed today how my strumming feels like really bad and I could use a lesson like this and then i just found it like this so thank you Sean! There's just one thing i'd like to mention, when I play G and C chords on my nylon they just sound like meh, and when you play them I'm sittin' here just staring, and I'm literally enchanted by the way your chords sound! Hope that I'll be able to play them like this one day. Thanks for an awesome video!!

Good advice! I used to have the habit of moving my picking hand far away at times. You temporarily lose where the strings are and even mess up your timing when you do that, unless you are Pete Townshend doing his famous "windmill". : )

I have found the best way of changing dynmamics is not how hard you hit the string, but how tightly I hold the pick. The greater the grip on the pick, the louder the volume, without changing the rythem

Sean, I watched this video and your How to improve your guitar strumming video. Got a lot of good tips but when I go and try to practice I kind of freeze up and I can't strum freely and good. Can you do a video on a typical strumming practice session or something? Like how you actually go about efficiently practicing your strumming? Please, it might sound dumb but I think it would help out a lot of people.

Hey Sean, I inadvertently learned to selectively strum a 3 string set when I had trouble getting to the standard C cord fingering. I temporarily went to a 5th fret middle 3 string C and it sounded "OK".
@seandaniel238 жыл бұрын
That's the best way to learn by just letting it fly and seeing what happens :)

Can you dampen the sound if you are anchoring to the top? Will this stop the top from vibrating the way it should? It seems like on the bridge would have less dampening. If this is a factor.
@seandaniel238 жыл бұрын
You know technically it is a factor because any manipulation to the top will affect its vibration, but it isn't something I can hear, although I'm sure some people can.

Great Lesson Sean and Thanks for the same. I have a problem in strumming. My pinkie keeps hanging out when I strum and although I try to keep it loose and not tight I still feel it is affecting my strumming and I feel that if I could control my pinkie not touching the guitar may be I could improve my strumming but but... how do I do that? I began to learn to play and sing after I turned 52 and now I am 59! Can I change the strumming at this age?? Would love to hear from you on this. Thanks in advance and cheers!!
@seandaniel238 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ram and OF COURSE it's not too late to change it. I actually had/have the same kind of issue. I think a lot of it depends on whether you use a pick or not. If you are, one thing you could try is tucking your middle and ring fingers a little further into the palm of your hand so your fingertips are actually touching your palm. It may not seem to affect your pinky much but it should naturally reign it in just a little bit more. We usually have much greater control of our middle and ring fingers so focusing on what those are doing might be a better way to deal with that rogue pinky. Hope that helps!

….I'm holding the pick all day, to make it part of me....and picking up the guitar and strumming with muted strings, to make it routine..I've had to go backwards and start things from scratch....It's terrible to have to do this at 61 y/o....but certain songs only sound right when the strumming is right......so....here I go...
