I am a 63 yo never married woman, who can Loudly Resonate with the problem of "the church" not loving or relating to single people well at all. I didn't have the same experience as Jim, in that he was in a sanctuary and no one spoke to him. I was outgoing and active with children. So I felt a part of the body, but seperate, at the same. My biggest frustration was church people always trying to set me up and a mother who was still wanting grandkids long after childbearing age. Those people would say I would be a great wife and mother. I finally got to the point where I became more bold about telling people that God made me a whole person, with or without a man or children. My experience doesn't have to be yours. I am happy that you are having a great relationship. Remember the Apostle Paul was single and Very Effective in his life. In retrospect, God has used me as a single woman, in ways that I couldn't have done in a marriage. I have gone back to school after years of taking care of everyone else. God has put me on a path to be a hospice Chaplain. He also allowed me to be mom to a handicapped child many years ago. I became guardian for Patty and we were together for 32 yrs before she went home to Jesus. I am so thankful that I live in the U.S. where these opportunities are available! Thank you for 'listening' to me. God Bless You and the ministry He has given you!

From the age of 4, I lived with my relatives since my parents weren't financially able to look after me.I was molested from ages 7 to 9 by a male relative. I never told anyone then. By the time I was 15, I started have same sex attraction. At age 23 to 24, I gave up fighting and started having sexual relationships with men. In 2018, by the conviction of the Holy Spirit, I was able to repent and break up with my boyfriend of 1 week. Two months later, I heard he had a car crash and died. To this day, the Lord has been gracious and kept me walking with Him. I'm currently 27 and still have the same sex attraction. I keep praying and asking the Lord to restore my feelings for the opposite sex but..... I'm really thankful for this interview. I'm encouraged to go on fighting the good fight of faith.

Keep up the good fight, Martin. Remember the Lord said He would fight for you. No one can snatch you out of his hand. I have to fight every day, and frankly, I get tired of it and want to quit. But I pick up my Bible daily and read. God reminds me Who He is and what He has done through Jesus, His only (single) Son Who He willingly sacrificed for a sinner like me, and how He keeps His promise to never leave or forsake me. I hear His Word and He hears my prayers. I could've never written His plan for me, but I've been walking with Him for 60 years now. Don't give up on the Lord, Martin. He won't give up on you. You'll be spared a lot of heartache if you trust and obey Him, and if you come back after you mess up, He will forgive you and clean you up again. (1John 1:9) We love Him because He first loved us!

Yeah well and this implies that something is wrong with you there is nothing wrong with you you have Phil for indoctrination and propaganda. Gay people are normal part of nature look at the animal kingdom 1500 species or homosexual you need to learn to love yourself and accept yourself you need to find a way to reconcile the Bible because the Bible is important to you it's important to me the Bible can be reconciled but it requires you to read a thousand years of ancient history and understand who wrote the Bible who were the prophets who were the rabbis who were the Cardinals and where they fit in history and are the actual realities you need to understand what irrational fear is and unreasonable fear. 👍😇😇🌈🙏. Because you're rejecting your whole identity and God created you gay for a reason you can see oppression like other people cannot so brother sister in Christ you got work to do. ❤️

And remember sexual molestation cannot cause a child to be gay it can cause a child to be more confused when coming into puberty but if you're born gay you're attracted to same sex whether your male or female and child abuse is completely different it's not even an orientation child abuses evil because it takes advantage of a small child the other child has no way of speaking or voice and consent that's what makes it evil. The church use propaganda to conflate homosexuality with pedophilia and the words all the way from the 1890s up into the 1950s and so don't be distracted with the names in the labels. If you've always been attracted in a healthy way to the male of your same age and their consenting that is love and there's nothing wrong with that don't conflate pedophilia with homosexuality they're not even in the same spheres 🌈😇🙏 keep talking secrets make people sick get healthy. 👍

The description of homosexuality as a lifestyle is a blatent oversimplification of human sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular. The purpose of this indoctrination of the collective societal psyche is paramount to the self validating delusion of heterosexuality possessing moral validity. The reason that we never hear the term " heterosexual lifestyle" is because there is no need to catogorize heterosexuality as being chosen in order to subconciously justify contempt and hatred through subjective comparison.

Thank you so much for making a video about such relevant topic! I found it very moving, as a mother, how to formulate the questions that encourage the young person to unveil/open up... We as parents don't know it all, and it is very humbling and loving to embrace that reality and when faced with something new to us, to ask "Help me understand how is it like for you...?" It brings both parents and child closer at a deeper level, the root is where we genuinely need to get to! Love is a noun and a verb, meaning that action needs to be taken (can't brush things under the rug!) I find kindness and truth to be great buddies in such situations! God bless you!

Our identity is not about our sexuality, christians have their identity in christ and the pursuit is for holiness whether ssa or not. We have many ssa believers in our congregation who are loved and accepted-all our singles and marrieds are called to holiness and obedience to the commands of God. I do think we can do a better job of including singles with our families, I have enjoyed doing that so much ( as a grandmother and married over 40 years).

Jim is a truly inspirational person with a moving story. I hope I'll once get there where he is currently, although I hope I don't have to be as low as he was to finally get out. But stories like his will help a lot of people and have to be heared. This is, I believe, the reason why some groups try to silence them. On a more personal note, a question: I'm playing with the thought of donating a copy of Jim's book to my mother to finally give a sign that not "everything is alright". But also as a promise that I will keep fighting and that I want help and change. Now, is this a good idea? I don't want to cause even more problems and sorrows for my parents, especially my mother has enough burdens on her own, plus in the worst case I'd probably just overwhelm them and create an awkward situation. But still, I feel like I am at a dead-end road and not able to get any better on my own. Without any external help I might give in sooner or later. What would you recommend me to do?

Jim, If you are still same sex attracted or gay, then that is who you are & always will be. You were born that way. No matter how long you're married or how many kids you have, it won't cure you of your gayness. I should & do know. I was married for over 27 years and in the ministry when I came out to my ex-wife. I'm 65 years old, still a follower of Christ & understand that of no choice of my own, I'm gay. Always will be until I die. The same is true for you as well.

@IvyLeather13
@IvyLeather13 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. While most christian parents are good at keeping up appearances that they "love" their LGBT child, if that child sets firm boundaries and doesn't allow themselves to be manipulated, the parents will often just drop them or greatly distance themselves. It shows that their "love" only exists if they think their child will stop being LGBT. It's too bad people won't just be honest about this.

@@IvyLeather13 well put. Idk if most Christians would be like Jim but many would be. It's irritating that they framed the lgbt kid's boundaries as unloving but the parents boundaries as being loving. Guess it's just another 'I was a bitter unholy brat before I returned to Jesus' story.
@m.f.5739
@m.f.5739 10 ай бұрын
But please remember, parents who set these boundaries in a kind way only do it with best intentions. They're not "manipulating" you for selfish purposes, they want to protect you for your own good. Although if it's hard in the short term, please don't react with anger. Try to see their intentions, because in most cases, they are only the best. I really wish I'd have a person in my life with whom I could talk like this about same sex attraction and get the help I need. Going through this on ones own doesn't make it easier, be thankful when your parents don't let you go through it alone.

@@m.f.5739 intentions don't justify bad results. we can use intentions to judge whether someone is trying to be loving or hateful, but not whether their actions are beneficial. If a parent treats you like you are diseased, like it seems you are implying being gay is, then that is a reason not to trust them with any personal matter regarding being gay. It is sad when you can't trust your parents with a basic part of life, because you know the feedback they will give will be useless and hurtful at best like suggesting it's a disease.
@m.f.5739
@m.f.5739 10 ай бұрын
@@willjapheth23789 Well, the best intentions can lead to a bad outcome, that's true. What I was trying to say that when we react to other people's actions, especially when they're that close, we should also look at their motivation and intentions. Humans make mistakes, also when they have only the best intentions. We should be forgiving about that. And to avoid any misunderstandings from my last paragraph (when rereading it I saw that it could be a bit confusing): I don't blame my parents or anybody for my situation. That I don't talk about it is my decision and my fault. I don't want to be a burden, my parents have enough worries themselves. And in the worst case all of this gets to the ears of someone who shouldn't know, and then I am in even more trouble. But it's not that I know that nobody would help me. If I really searched out for help, I could probably get some. It's just that I have a bad conscience for burdening my family with all this.

Some other useful suggestions for parents are to be affirming and then find a gay couple in your community to use role models! Going up gay and only ever seeing gay couples on tv was hard, and I think it is part of why a lot of people in the gay community struggle with relationships. Today, there is no need for that. If you look, im sure you can find gay couples live good, honest lives either at your kids' school or church.

Oh wow, I have so much to adress but I will focus on one thing : telling your heterosexual daughter or son to wait with sex until marriage is not the same thing as being non affirming to your gay son or daughter... Because having sex before marriage is an action. Being gay is part of your gay son or daughter, it´s not something you do., its not an activity lol ... to tell your gay child to wait with sex until marriage would be a fair advice.

There is a difference between accepting someone as they are and taking the time to discover the reason they are pursuing this lifestyle. I have a friend that is gay because of abuse from heterosexual partners, another might be because of childhood molestation, exposure to pornography, PTSD, mental health, identity issues, etc. If one of these reasons is the cause of homosexuality, it's important to deal with the root cause and the trauma to bring healing and affirmation to their hurts and pain. However, this is a topic that I simply cannot understand the christian side of the argument at all, and isn't something I think christians and atheists can just agree to disagree on. Perhaps you have another video on this topic, but why do you think being homosexual is wrong in the first place? Is it just blindly obeying the biblical writings, or is there something more to it? I can point out secular reasons that (generally speaking) killing, stealing, lying, etc are morally wrong, but can't think of a single reason homosexuality is wrong. It may be that God puts His servants in different situations because He's hand picked them specifically, like Esther who was first a concubine before she became queen. We cannot say to another you should do it this way since God may have another plan. I see it as a meat sacrificed to idols situation. We don't want to cause others to stumble and therefore shan't drink in front of an alcoholic.

@@Jasminestealth1 I don't agree. He did what he thought was the best choice for him. God is full of grace and mercy. Jesus modeled this for us, and as His followers we want to grow to be like Him. It's a matter of conscience. For him, if he had gone to the wedding, he'd be violating his own conscience. And, if his choice is wrong, then he may repent to the Lord and apologize to the offended people. There is 'room' for all of us to struggle with a decision and end up making the lesser or greater choice depending on where we are in our walk with God. We all have different convictions and must decide for ourselves, preferably with prayer and seeking God's will in a matter. I don't know about you, but the older I get the more I realize I lack wisdom and must take things to the Lord in prayer, and I'm old, been around the block more than once. I acknowledge that you have your own conviction in this matter, and that's good. It's better to live by convictions, because it means you are connecting your brain and heart. But, we hopefully all get better at balancing this with grace and truth. May you be richly blessed I the knowledge and grace in the Lord. It's a journey for sure.

And I've studied the Bible my whole life as well and I feel God called me as a child I have a letter stipulating that. 🙄 The topic we need to discuss is should pastors who are repressing their homosexual feelings and not living a lifestyle in concordance with their identity should they be pastors should gay people that are repressing their sexuality be pastors counseling other people when I feel they have not reconciled their own beliefs with the Bible it can be done it has been done and it's being done all the time when you get healthy. And I don't feel a pastor a man who is repressing his identity should be a counseling other people to deny who they are, with devastating outcomes.

The description of homosexuality as a lifestyle is a blatent oversimplification of human sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular. Such indoctrination of the collective societal psyche is paramount to the self validating delusion of heterosexuality possessing moral validity. The reason that we never hear the term " heterosexual lifestyle" is because there is no need to catogorize heterosexuality with such inherent connotative oversimplification in order to subconciously justify contempt and hatred through subjective comparison.

Nothing scream God, scripture and compassion like conditional love. Saying I love you then following it with but... is just lip service. Much like how in the Incredible's when the boss fire Mr Incredible, "The law requires that I answer no." We are required to say we love you, yet truth is far from their lips and hearts. And classic different standards that drive those you "love" away. And how many typical clichés can you get? Lifestyle, what lifestyle, should I quit seminary, stop reading the Bible, praying, going to church? And you make being gay sound like someone has cancer or some incurable and fatal disease. And that is exactly what he means, just as I'm sure you do, you just won't bring yourself to say, you are gay because you were abused or don't have good family/parental relationships. One thing I have noticed is that gays are less loving and tolerant of conservatives/Christians than Christians are towards gays. It really does just boil down to the lesser of evils. I assume you would never marry someone who was divorced or the reception afterwards, as that is not God's best. And it is answers like that which make me wonder if I would even bother inviting someone who clearly would rather give birth to a sailboat or die than go to it anyway.
