As a old hand at SoT with around 3000 hours on the seas, I can honestly say this is a great introduction.

You could elaborate on the "Pirate code" because everywhere I've seen the community seems to think the code is "pirates were evil so we are allowed to be as disgusting to others as we want" before these same people hop in with "pirate game, ur gonna get sunk" I have no problem being sunk, PVP CAN be fun, but in the past few months of coming back to the game I have RARELY come across a PVP crew that wasn't actively trying to make people mad by prolonging spawn camps until you just scuttle cuz they dont wanna just sink you already, mic spamming the wikipedia list of slurs they have up on their other monitor, and text spamming *rolls on deck laughing* and the like. Theres a line where you're not having fun PVPing someone and taking their loot, you're having fun sucking the enjoyment out of the game for others. you can have PVP and still have fun. But people promoting toxic behavior like that ruins it. Especially when they somehow make it the person who got sunks fault saying theyre just mad they sunk and not that the act of being sunk was miserable. Just the other day I hopped on to try the new season, ran into a crew of first time PS5 players, we talked and had a good time, they wanted to check out the fort of the damned so I helped em get it started by doing an Athena skull voyage and they were so happy that whole time. Queue some reaper sloop who came up and joined the alliance (I was suspicious about them but I wasn't gonna throw the first punch) They were friendly to the crew until they had touched enough loot to be level 5 reapers. then like a light switch they start killing the new players, screaming slurs, and spamming the chat all at once. One of the new players was some kid (probably around 13-15 sounded like) and they SPECIFICALLY griefed him as much as they could. called him names, kept killing and reviving him because he didn't understand to just force respawn yet. then the big kicker. They left all the loot. I have seen this kinda behavior so many times. then if I talk about it in this games circles im told "its a pirate game bro." is the draw of this game MEANT to be just actively hurting others? because that don't really seem very pirate like to me.

I actually like how Rare talks about PvP. As a newer solo player who started last September I was always scared of pvp until I saw how encouraged it was from Rare and I got into hourglass and learned so much from other hg KZbinrs. Now PvP is my favorite thing about the game and I love getting into scraps with other crews on the seas. It just took some practice and some encouragement from Rare

Advice for new players: 1. Nothing is yours till you sell it. If you have been grinding treasure and you keep it on your boat, don’t get angry when another player comes and decides to fight against you for it. This game is called sea of “thieves” after all. The best rewards are the ones you have fought to protect and the one’s where you have earned enough treasure to make your emissary flag level 5 which comes with its own risks that you will have to take for that nice reputation (cause let’s be honest, after enough time, gold becomes meaningless and reputation is the thing that will matter the most) 2. Don’t leave your boat with the anchor down, raise your sails instead so you can do a quick get away if you need it. 3. Explosives are almost always a bad idea to bring them on unless you have a plan with them, the money you get is quite insignificant 4. PvP with ships is really fun if you have a crew that knows what they are doing, I found nice crews through the sea of thieves official discord server but I found the best crews on the high seas, who after they sunk me down, I asked questions on how to improve and they took me as one of their own in their guild and I’ve learned high advanced hourglass techniques and we have stolen quite the loot in many servers. 5. The funniest interactions are the one’s with other players, either stealing their loot, attacking or hiding from them or having a nice alliance with other players. Don’t run away from all players cause you will miss out on one of the best parts of the game and you won’t learn how to fight to defend your loot. 6. There are some great guides in KZbin to learn all the little tricks that come in PvP with ships and crews, if you are interested in defending your loot, some great YT channels are “blurbs” or “KaiJoi”. 7. This game has a lot of glitches and sometimes you will lose battles due to them, it happens to everyone. Hope it helps someone. This is the advice I would have told myslef when I started playing back in season 8. I have 1200 hours in steam with only missing 3 new achievements they added in the new season 12 update. I will be sailing to complete them, I’ll see you on the high seas.

To new players: sinking is a part of the learning experience. Perseverance and resilience are good qualities to have to learn to love this game. Take it from me, an avid sailor who has been playing since Christmas of 2018. I love this game through and through, even when given its flaws. As long as you constantly think about how you can be a better pirate and learn from mistakes both of your own and others, you will be proficient in piracy in no time!

very helpful. the only thing id say is bring back adventures in safer seas, just to let the newer players understand some of the story they missed out on. obviously, there will have to be slight tweaks, with the shrouded deep requiring 5 players, or the fact that port merrick will need to be shrouded golden sands, but maybe you can do something with the sea of the damned and memories and stuff like that. also make all the other outposts like port merrick. it is a beautiful island (if not a bit dead, due to lack of life outside of the outpost regulars) but it just seems out of place, the only similar parts are the sea forts, which are immediately hostile environments

An idea that I think would be really cool and amazing is one where in SOT if you have enough gold you could buy a personal island where us pirates could store all our caption ships so we could show them off to friend or just see all your ships together in a fleet also we could customize the island itself and a home on the island where we could show off different weapons,tools,pets,maybe outfits,ship decor and trinkets, etc. We could use gold to buy different building materials that like the buildings that around could be made of so we could change what it looks likes maybe more or less buildings or where we could have huts or you know really anything you see in the SOT you could use/have in your island if you had enough gold to buy it all and i also think all of this stuff should cost a lot and be almost like end game rewards but i think getting the island itself should be not as much or maybe you get like a small starter island with a starter hut and you can buy and upgrade from there or pick a smaller island if you so wanted. I am just thinking and typing at the same time so i don't know if i really made sense or if this seems like a good idea or not but if you do this whole thing and get this far could you tell me your thoughts and what you would like too see or not see if something like this was put into the game. I'll probably post this comment in a few other places (using copy and paste) so more people can see it and talk about it and if people like the idea enough maybe Rare will hear about it. But yea if you have any ideas for what I thought or any feedback let me know. Personally I would love something like this. plus i have so many pets i would love to see them all running around together lol.

Hey Rare, it’d be cool if you brought back captains week for PlayStation players, it’d give them a chance to get the captains rapiers, too! Loving the game, by the way!

TL;DR for new players considering the game from the actual online game point of view. Buy Emporium cosmetics -> Buy ship -> Buy Dark Adventurer sails -> Sink other players or ... quit :-) ... Why quit? Well first, you have to approach this game as it is CS2, not as an RPG. It only looks like that. You will hop on the seas, play some games, and leave it without any progress other than your skill. This is sad for many players, but for the ones loving to play Sims simulators, it is perfect and they protect it as their children. There is no other progress/improvement of your pirate or ship asides mentioned that you would expect in an RPG. The in-game currency is worthless unless you want just to look good. Also, you need to find in yourself a good reason to plunder other pirates. All you get from them is just a loot worth of in-game currency, which if you want to sell in, you spend a noticeable amount of your time just by doing something for "nothing". It very often happens to us spending around 30+ minutes selling other's loot at PvP faction base per 3-hour session. So, the choice is yours if you like it or not. For me, it is wasted potential. It is so difficult to find a reason to go and spend time on sell-in loot in this game. Hording in-game currency just to feel good, probably?

I feel one part was left out of this video and it may be the past that was most needed to be in this video. We are pirates, pirates are theives, don't blame people who sink you and steal your loot. A great tip i want to give to all PlayStation players is, do not stack more loot than what you are willing to lose.

Hi, as a Veteran player, I personally believe sailing with a closed crew is the best way to learn how to handle yourself; not only do you have less ship to handle, but even if you do crew the bigger ships with friends, they'll be 90% less of a detriment than randos with different goals. Of course, who am I to tell you how to play the game? If you still chose to Open Crew and you find yourself in the middle of a losing scrap, step one is to curse the coward who abandoned ship at the first sign of trouble. Step two is to help your crew get out of the situation as soon as possible- use open mic or the open text to work together to kill boarders and raise the anchor, lower sails, and get moving; a still ship is a sunk ship. Only then should you, as a crewmate, prioritize patching holes and bailing. Of course, the alternative is to just let the ship sink and treat the reswpawn as your fresh spawn, which is significantly easier (and in some cases, mentally healthier)

What if they made a Horn of Great Fires instead of Winds? You could use it to blow fire onto a stick to make it a torch. (Torches can be thrown, basically fire bombs but they work as a better light source than lanterns.) But if another person has a Horn of Great Winds, they could make the fire brighter and bigger. (This is for combat.) The more horns, the bigger the fire!

4:04 as someone who been playing since 2019. This is not Sea of thieves as this never ever happened in the game where all the ships meet and fight. Never! This sight was only seen in Arena which was a game mode where 6 ships fight for the number 1 spot by fighting each other for 15 minutes. Rare thought this game mode was bad and removed it and introduced the shitty boring Hourglass matchmaking which is just ship vs ship. Arena was the best place to practice and learn aiming cannons and boarding enemy ships and it's extremely fun! sadly, PS5 players missed this amazing game mode. BRING ARENA BACK!

Maybe it feels a bit like a meat grinder for ps5 players when they run into a few experienced crews who are bloodthirsty or have trust issues. Or both 😅
