Motorhead - Overkill Metallica - Ride the Lightning Megadeth - Peace Sells Saxon - Wheels of Steel Not HVS material really, but Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Neil Young all released incredible 2nd albums after "inauspicious" debuts.

Don’t know if Butch is seeing this or not but I thank you Butch for turning me onto thin lizzy. Through your commentary on these shows the past few years I have grown a deep love for thin lizzy and they have become one of my favorite bands and I’m only 17! I thank both you and Pete, Butch. And if Pete see this, please pass this on to Butch because I think he should know the greatness he has done for my musical journey.

Takeaways from tonight's episode: 1. Bryce, Ryan, Butch, Chris A., Ralph, Lynne, Bob, Craig, and Steve in the house... 2. "I never said anything. I don't even remember what I said yesterday" 3. "..it sounded like a bowl of wet ass" 4. "...Dave Lombardo with his ass on fire"... 5. And we have a John Sykes reference at 29 minutes and 10 seconds into the show... 6. "...one of the only bands I can put up those Alo numbers... 7. "I did see them in basements, but not a Chinese restaurant basement" 8. An album called "My dog is freaking out" 9. "Keeping it clean tonight" 10. " I smoked a fat blunt with..." 11. "Them's fighting words" 12. The look on Lynne's face when Craig talks about Nashville Pussy... 13. It's always funny to me when I pause the episode and everyone is laughing except for Chris Alo who always looks like he is half asleep" 14. "Craig, I love you but we don't have to go through the whole fucking collection" 15. "You should have stopped at Pussy" 16. "...fucking nerd proggy shit" As for the topic, I would add D.R.I.'s second album "Dealing With It"

Muse's Origin of Symmetry (2001) is a massive step up from Showbiz, Dream Theater's Images and Words (1992) transcends the debut, and Alter Bridge's Blackbird (2007) is a modern classic. Honourable mentions would be Dokken's Tooth and Nail (1984), Crimson Glory's Transcendence (1988) and out of the SoT sphere, Amy Winehouse's Back to Black (2006). Frank showed her potential , BtB was the star revealed. RIP Amy :(

No way would I put Van Halen II over the first album. Their debut was so heavy and guitar driven, it was kind of disappointing to see them go in a more radio friendly direction on the follow up. Good songs, but it lacked the ferocity of that first one.

@gabriellarrubia1006 Жыл бұрын
@@BackwoodsFilms Maybe the ferocity, sure, but I think II is more consistent. I really like the first and final clusters of songs on the debut, but I don't go crazy for Jamie's Crying, I'm the One and and Feel your Love Tonight. There's some groundbreaking things on the second album that maybe go by undetected. The shortness and atmosphere of it might make it seem like they were taking things less seriously, but I find that it actually helps me revisit it really often. Never feels like half an hour wasted

The debut is trash and wasn't as good but have not the debut but their next after Fire In The Brain 3rd Warning (III Warning) actual name on record which is a great killer 3rd album from OZ on vinyl. Yea alot of great 2nd albums. Sometimes as one knows a band can have killer debut and great 2nd album follow up too. But anyway great watching and enjoying. Thanks Pete and HVS!🎶

Maybe not at a technical level, but I do like that there's more original material. That's actually a really singular album compared to the rest, the short jams are really good

"Salisbury" from UH it's better from the debut "...Very 'Eavy ...Very 'Umble" for me! Also ... "Death Walks Behind You" from Atomic Rooster and "Narita" from Riot.

I had the Atomic Rooster picked out, but figured I'd save it for a possible Prog Seat episode. Can't say I agree with Heep though...love Salisbury, but I'm more partial to Very 'Eavy.

I forgot Salisbury, I legitimately think that's the best Uriah Heep album. Mick Box is an absolute monster on it. It's varied, punchy and overall satisfying initially. By the time you reach the suite it's overkill, completely exceeding expectations.

Fun exercise! I picked more than 3 below, but I also agree with many of the same ones you all came up with (Zepp, Sabbath, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Rush, Priest, Rainbow, Saxon, Leppard, Maiden, Crue, Megadeth, Candlemass, Fear Factory (too good - right on Ryan!) & Mastodon). For me I picked where the second album has quite a jump from the debut (not that their debuts were bad!) 80s 1985 Anthrax (Spreading the Disease) 1988 Cinderella (Long Cold Winter) 1989 Tesla (The Great Radio Controversy) 90s 1992 The Black Crowes (Southern Harmony and Musical Companion) 1992 Alice In Chains (Dirt) 1995 Dark Tranquillity (The Gallery) 2000s 2000 Black Label Society (Stronger Than Death) 2007 Alter Bridge (Blackbird) 2009 Obscura (Cosmogenesis) 2018 King Buffalo (Longing for the Mountain)
