I had the ultimate bad concert experience in July 2004. I took my 15 yr old son to London in order to see Cheap Trick. (Of all the bands I got him into Cheap Trick were right up there). So, it's standing room only at Shepherds Bush for the 'Special One' tour. A few songs in, with my boy beside me, I spotted a man behind me with a half-full pint glass of beer. Then this guy stands in front of me, and he throws the beer over Rick Neilsen, before turning and disappearing. Everyone was shocked. I couldn't believe the guys reach. We were six rows from the front. A disgruntled and dripping wet Rick Neilsen stops playing and demands that the bouncers eject the perpetrator - even though he has flown the scene. But Rick isn't having it. Then pointing directly at me, my musical hero shouts, "it's him there in the black Cheap Trick t shirt." I could've died. I was thinking about the show (which had cost me a fortune to attend) being ruined for my son and myself. As the bouncers pushed their way towards me, someone near shouts, "it wasn't him." Then several more folk nodded and piped up in my defence. Then, to coin a phrase, the band played on, but I couldn't give a sh*t thereafter. My night was ruined, and allied to that the set list only lightly touched on the latest album.

We walked into the Sporto and the residual tear gas stung our eyes. Only after reading about it the next day in the Miami Herald did I find out what happened. Loved the Sporto. Classic dump of an arena notorious for great pre and post concert partying.

At Ozzfest at the Glen Helen Pavilion during Iron Maiden's set they experienced technical difficulties and it was revealed that the singer's vocals had been prerecorded and was lip-syncing. In my early twenties Whitesnake was my favourite band, the 1st time I saw them was in 82 at the Birmingham Odeon on the Saints’n’Sinners tour, it wasn’t bad but I had bought the tickets months before and my expectations were probably too high, I think DC had a sore throat and of course there was no Bernie Marsden or Neil Murray. I saw them a few times afterwards and was always disappointed. I refused to go to Monsters of Rock in 81 with my brother who was a big AC/DC fan, AC/DC topped the bill with Whitesnake second. I’ve heard that concert on a bootleg and it sounded great, I’ll always regret not going. 🇬🇧🏍

Kevinism A way of life I agree 100%. I never saw Whitesnake at their peak with Moody and Marsden, but I saw them twice in 1984 and then on the ‘1987’ tour at Wembley Arena in London. Thank you Chris for your Motorhead comments. I saw Motorhead about 30 times between 1982 and 2008 or so. In October 2015 they came to Montreal and I had the chance to go. I didn't know what to do. It was my chance to see the great man one last time, but equally I knew that he would be so sick. In the end I decided not to go and to keep my memories of him at the height of his power rather than have my last memory of him as a sick and feeble old man. I still wonder even now if I went the right way but you comments confirm to me that I probably did the right thing in not going.

Bad gigs or performances at gigs: Van Morrison at Fleadh - drunk, lousey; Syd Arthur , Islington - singer ill, kept telling us, failed to finish 3 songs; John Primer - 100 club - sang Rhinestone Cowboy when I went to see 'the blues'!; Wreckless Eric - Stared me out the entire concert and mostly played feedback in the second half. Stockholm 1980: Kiss supported by Iron Maiden. I was 15 and hadn't heard of Iron Maiden and the volume and the quality of the sound was very painful and I saw a guy at the entrance with fingers in his ears weeping. After Maiden me and my mate went back to the floor not that far from the stage and if Maiden was loud Kiss sound engineer must have thought "Wow, these go to 12, even better than 11!". To recognize most of the songs I had to put fingers in my ears. Otherwise it was listening to a jumbo jet in a small garage. I think the venue, Eriksdalshallen was infamous for it's sound and I just read that it was used while Johanneshovs Ice Stadium was renovated and it only had place for 3 300 spectators. So it was two Jumbo jets in a small garage then... (At Johanneshov I had seen Thin Lizzy 1979 and earlier 1980. Those two shows are on the other hand very high on my all-time favorite list).

My neighbor gave me two tickets for Deep Purple and Winger, at the last minute because he couldn't make it. Worcester Centrum Massuchusetts , I drove like a bat out of hell to get there, knowing I would miss the backup band,. Since I had the extra ticket, I decided to give it away. The only people I saw was a group of about 10 people, so I asked them if anyone needed a ticket. They started laughing all at once, turns out the person I asked was Kip Winger! Went into the show, found my seat, and was hit in the head by an empty nip bottle, some idiot must have randomly threw from the balconies above. Deep Purple were great. Joe Lynn Turner was the singer back then, however. I go to my pick up truck and some loser was trying to break into my rear toolbox, after chasing him away, I pulled out, and a cop, has seen the commotion and pulled me over. He made me get out of the truck, in the pouring rain, while searching it. He didn't find anything, but arrested me for disturbing the peace. They towed my truck while they wrote me up at the cop shop, and I left with a summons for court. It cost me over 100 bucks for the tow charge, taxi fair, and another 100 for the bullshit disturbing the peace charge. So free tickets ended up being a hellish night, but at least I got to see Deep Purple!

My worst concert was also on that tour! At Pacific amphitheatre in Orange County, CA. Axl was angry about something from the getgo. Was ranting and would stop the songs. Ended up walking off stage and the show ended early, maybe 30 minutes in. They had been hours late getting onstage. My friend shouted after the show, " Axl's on the rag!" They did a few acoustic songs on the sofa (like they did at all the shows on that leg of the tour), and it was the last song axl stomped off and it was pretty cool Duff took over the vocals and finished the show. I’d agree they weren’t at their peak since it was towards the end of a brutally long tour, but wasn’t a nightmare show or anything.

a buddy told me he saw Dylan in 2017 or 2018 at the Clay Center in Charleston, WV. said everyone was warned before the show, you'd be removed without refund if you were caught shooting pics/video. said the lights would go out between every song, Dylan never faced or spoke to the crowd at all, he didn't play anything older than 2010, only sang and played piano (no guitars, just jazz stuff) and when the lights went out after his last song, the house lights came on, Dylan and his band had disappeared and everyone was instructed towards the merch shop. said Dylan never welcomed or thanked the crowd or anything. plus, there were only 2 ticket prices, $100.00 or $300.00. My 3 choices - 1 - Aerosmith - early 90's. This was one of the first shows of a long tour and the band was quite rusty and sounded bad in every regard. They said they were filming some footage from this show for concert/promotion video (which never materialized into anything) and Steven was paying almost all his attention to the cameras and not caring if the show sucked. The best moment of the show was Joe Perry singing Walk On Down ... pretty sad though if that was the highlight! 2 - Rez Band - mid 80's. Went to a Christian music festival and this was the band I was most excited to see. But a heavy rainstorm occurred and as Rez was performing their first song "The Main Event", with them singing the chorus "the power is on, the power is on tonight" as the power for nearly all their speakers went out. The crew wanted no part of trying to get those speakers working in the heavy rain. They did an impromptu backstage greeting to make up for the show being cancelled but it was a really rushed affair due to the bad weather. At least they eventually made a very good live double album "Twenty Years" which helped erase the disappointment from my lone chance to see them. 3 - Def Leppard - early 90's. The band was still "In the Round", but on a much smaller stage and budget this time around and the sound was downright terrible. On top of matters, my girlfriend and I were fighting during half the show. It was a huge letdown from the iconic "In the Round, In Your Face" VHS tape I owned and watched several times.

I don’t expect most of you to read all of this. But here it is if you choose to… Boston: 1987- While driving home someone cut me off so I gave him the bird. A few miles later, while waiting in line to get a Pennsylvania Turnpike ticket (with my car’s window down) the dude came up to my car and punched me in the face. Tibetan Freedom Concert: 1998- It was about 110 degrees in the stadium and no beer was sold. Bottle waters were about 8.00 each. There were buckets of ice laying around. So I’d get a chuck of ice and melt it down in my hand. I figured no one’s grimy hands touched the INSIDE of the ice chucks. So after they melted a bit I’d suck on them. No beer was a deal-breaker though. Monster Magnet/Kid Rock/(Hed) Pe: 1998- I was there to see Monster Magent. My ride ended up getting too drunk and left without me. I was downtown Pittsburgh and 40 minutes from my home. I had to pay a taxi about 80.00 to get home. I did end up backstage asking the lead singer if he saw a wasted dude stumbling around. And while I was looking for my ride outside a hooker DID invite me to a hotel room. She was cute, but I naturally declined. Columbus Wing Zing: 2003- Blue Oyster Cult, Edgar Winter, Stephen Percy performed with some local bands. I really wanted to see BOC, but Edgar Winter played before them…and droned on for TWO freakin’ hours! He was signing merchandise after the show so I walked by and yelled, “You stole my buzz, old man!” Ozzy Osbourne: 2007- My wife was passing out on the lawn three songs into his set. It was either enjoy the show and carry her to the car…or leave then and help her walk. So we left. Greg Allman: 2013- Coming home I decided to stop and eat some wings at a bar. But I ended up drinking too much and getting my first (AND LAST!) DUI. I haven’t gotten behind the wheel after drinking since. Bob Seger: 2019- I Ubered to this show and the weather was fine. When it was over a blizzard was hitting us bad. No taxis, Ubers or Lift drivers were responding. Everyone was panicking. By a miracle I found an Uber driver. As I ran to meet my Uber (with the driver on the phone) I heard on the other end someone trying to steal him away from me. I yelled into the phone, “Don’t let that guy steal you away from me!” What was normally a 12.00 ride home turned into a surge-charged 80.00 ride. Iron Maiden: 2019- I paid extra money to join Maiden’s fan club so I could get good tickets. When they went on sale Ticketmaster did “its thing” of making me wait and booting me from the line…twice. I finally got tickets a little bit to the left of the stage. Because of the dumb way the pavilion was set up the tickets ended up being “limited-view” tickets. I couldn’t see deep into the stage. So I just walked back and forth on the sidewalk behind the seated area so I could see the whole show…until security caught on to what I was doing, that is. And while driving to the show we were in a 5-mile, one-lane construction zone with high walls to the left and right. About half way into the zone a five car pileup happened about a half mile up from us. No one could go backwards or forwards. We were stuck for three and a half hours. People were peeing on the other side of the construction wall. Five tow trucks had to drive backwards from the construction zone’s exist (one by one), pick up each car and then drive forwards

This was awesome. Definitely looking forward to the second part. I'm with Pete 100% on Dream Theater: Went to a show when they were touring The Astonishing. The show practically put me to f***ing sleep. A boring show for a boring album. Was 2 1/2 hours. I nearly spat my drink out (twice!!!) when Ryan talked about the show with Marcy's Playground, Gin Blossoms, and Everclear. Hilarious, and I actually like Gin Blossoms.

Worst concert experience for me was being at Donington Park in 85 to see Marillion, but during Metallica that day, was hit square in the face by a plastic bottle, quarter full of piss. Burst my nose. Still able to watch Marillion, but was in pain. God, it hurt.

@@independenceltd. I saw Zeppelin's Live Aid performance on KZbin and it wasn't their best, I agree. I will say Plant did clean it up on "Stairway To Heaven." Jimmy was obviously wasted and it showed in his performance. In their defense, it's my understanding that Plant was on a solo tour and his voice probably needed a rest. He tends to push himself unnecessarily. The band had little practice time and the drummers weren't in-sync. I give them a little slack because it was for charity. And, judging by the concerts I've watched, they tend to a hit or miss. I love the August 11th Knebworth show. The August 4th was a little shaky because they took time off for the obvious reason. I will say, aside from their LIve Aid show, the Earl's Court May 25th performance is also a little shaky but it got better during the second half. Again, they tend to push themselves and maybe the smarter thing would've been to do fewer great concerts that a bunch that were maybe mediocre. Unfortunately, I don't think they had the luxury because bad luck seemed to follow them, especially Plant.

I like 90s alternative way more than any of these guys and even I was horrified by that casino/county-fair level bill. I went to Bonnaroo several years ago and Eminem was the headliner one night, so no other stages with other bands were going on. I tried to watch him, but gave up and one of the few entertainment alternatives, besides just going back to my tent, was a burlesque show. I quickly found out who else didn't like Eminem.

Great Hollywood Squares show and already looking forward to the next one! Several good laughs from listening to the four of you relive some memorable times. My worst... probably the concert in the early to mid 70's [can't recall the exact date] waiting for Sly and The Family Stone to take the stage and perform. The only concert I ever had front row center tickets but Sly and the band were notorious at the time for taking the stage late or not showing at all. My recollection is that it was around a two hour wait and there was on playing while the crowd waited. The crowd got a little impatient to say the least. They finally took the stage but many seemed under chemical influences of the time.

In 1991, I went to a concert by Johnny Thunders in Brussels [Belgium]. Thunders would sing, play guitar and was accompanied by a sax player. It started with one song and then Thunders began to ramble in an incomprehensible language. This went on and on, a real disaster. The audience was dead silent. Suddenly he collapsed to the podiumfloor and had to be carried away. A month later he passed away. Very sad story.

I went to a Styx/Foreigner/Def Leppard concert, when my then boyfriend, fell asleep during the show. He had worked all night long, and was exhausted. But I missed most of Styx's set, because of coming into two traffic accidents on the way to the venue. And Foreigner didn't play one of my favorite tracks from them, plus they started performing one or two Zepplin songs. So I wasn't too happy with the concert. During a 2001 concert, I had a beer spilled in my lap, from the person next to me...

Worst concert experience for me I was in Texas in 2015 at the time(I was 10)visiting my uncle who was stationed in El Paso at the time(he’s in the military) and he wanted to see disturbed in Dallas and he asked me if I wanted to go and my mom was ok with it cause me and him were and still are huge disturbed fans so we take the 9 hour drive up there and we get to the house of blues in Dallas which is where they were on tour for immortilized and we were in the 6th row so we were kind of close but midway through their set David draimen the lead singer stops the show and calls out a fan for texting and we look behind us and he said she was on the balcony and we look behind us and she’s flipping him off and he’s going on a rant saying “don’t tell me to fuck myself” and so on and so forth and she was pissed because she was publicly humiliated and later on turns out she was texting her daughter because in the area in which she lived there was a hailstorm and she was trying to calm her daughter down and when people on the internet found out they voiced there disappointment in draimen for being egotistical and not thinking about who or why she was texting So yeah he kind of ruined the show but we watched the rest of it(it was a good concert except for the rant) But yeah that’s mine

Great video as always. I can dig all of the S. of T. experiences. Probably a time of shitty concert experiences was more akin to the 70s and early 80s when there was General Admission ticketing and most big-band shows cost your average teenager $6.50 to $12.50 (CDN) for a ticket. My experience with a rather wild out-of-control rock concert experience happened in July 1984 at Kingswood Music Theatre north of Toronto. Aerosmith was the headliner with Orion the Hunter (Brad Delp) opening. The first act played a great set, on-time and with a few 'Boston' songs thrown-in. Aerosmith was late in-starting (an hour and 40 minutes between bands). When Aerosmith took the stage they were obviously ALL wrecked-out of their heads. They did a 10 minute jam session and then segued into a loose rendition of 'Back in the Saddle'. The headliner lasted exactly 55 minutes, with no encores and then the house-lights came-on. After another 20 minutes Steven Tyler himself came-on stage and announced, "the police are taking us away, so we gotta go". That was it, that's when the plastic-seat backrests started sailing over everybody's heads. the crowd was dispersed by police over the next hour.

I have been to hundreds of concerts in the past 25 years, and the majority of the shows I have been to were all amazing. I have never been a fan of Poison , but the majority of my friends were so I had to endure their set. It is not that they played terrible. I just don't care for their music. Another show I went to was Ozzfest 2000, and most of the bands played well and the fans were enjoying them. The only band that got booed immediately after they started their set was Methods Of Mayhem. After they started their second song Tommy Lee could not handle the booing anymore. They stopped playing , flipped us off, and left the stage. That is the only time I have ever seen a band get booed , and it was very loud.

My disappointing experience was going to the Virginia Beach Amphitheater for a 1998 Yes concert. Although the venue opened in 1996, they were doing extensive construction work in and around it. It took about an hour to get there. We had difficulty finding the place (at the time in the middle of nowhere) due to the poor signage. We somehow got on the wrong entrance road and found ourselves avoiding dump trucks, backhoes and a steamroller that headed right for us that we were just able to avoid. We got to the event a little late as a result. Then my friend who drove spent a long time getting a t-shirt once we got there. I went to my seat and watched and listened. I wasn’t a big Yes fan at the time so I was hoping that he could tell me songs and albums that they played from that I wasn’t familiar with. Finally, he returned and then doubled over. He was going into his last year of college and didn’t know what to do with his life and had a full-on panic attack. At the time, he kind of hid this but then we had to leave about mid-concert. He was the driver and I had to go back with him.

Usually it's 1-2 that i want to see, but am too tired or bored by the time i see them, because i had to sit through 2-3 shitty local bands and then 2-3 lame deathcore bands first. So after 2-3 hours of music i dont give a shit about, im just ready to go home. Legendary vocalist with a bad concert idea - Robert Plant Honeydrippers set in the middle of The Shaken and Stirred show 1985. Honeydrippers was a nice change-up and Sea of Love and Rocking At Midnight were cool on the radio but not something you wanna see in concert. Also, Shaken and Stirred was too 80's techno. Plant just ran out of good material for his 3rd solo record, fired his band after the tour, and came back with a vengeance in '88.

With the Ratt fiasco of 1987, I think the Dancing Undercover tour name was a misprint: it was actually Drinking Under The Table. And I got some laughs out of the Halford show riot and the dude setting the t-shirt on fire.

*Top 4* Bad Concerts: *1) Greatful Dead / Bob Dylan backed up by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.* Concert was in the Metrodome in Mpls., MN. *Sound was dreadful.* Grateful Dead tech did the sound. About a month or two later, *Pink Floyd (Momentary Lapse of Reason tour)* played in the Dome. Sound was incredible. *2) Fleetwood Mac (Tusk tour)* Festival in West Germany. *Scheduled was Rockpile, Don McLean, Little River Band, Bob Marley & The Wailers* (Marley died about 7 months later) *and Fleetwood Mac.* McLean & LRB didn't show up. They had 3 local German bands. Rockpile started the day. Decent. Bob Marley (started around 5 O'Clock) & *WAS THE BEST BAND (MUSIC WISE) I EVER WAS AT.* Two unknown bands then Fleetwood Mac came on at 8 O'Clock. *BORING!!* *3) Zakk Wylde.* He opened an outdoor show in Mpls (forgot who - maybe Heart??). He played an acoustic set with him and a acoustic guitar. Another *BORING SET!!* *4) David Allan Coe.* A free outdoor concert in Mpls. He played an acoustic set. No drums. Problem was these 4 guys near me just talked talked talked & talked. Song stops. They clap. Songs start. Back to talking. Half way through the 45 minute show. Had to move. David Allan Coe was good. Saw him at a country club year after this show. He had his regular band with him. Great show. Smoked weed in the cloud. Good show.

Without going into details here's my four: King Diamond, Hammersmith Odeon 1988 Celtic Frost, Hammersmith Odeon 1988 Megadeth, Hammersmith Odeon 1987 Monsters Of Rock, Donington 1988 The main reason Donington is on there is two people got crushed to death down the front. Just a horrible day all round.

1) Ratt concert: Saw Bobby Blotzer get hit in the head with a bottle of Heineken beer. He never stopped playing but kept checking his head to see if he was bleeding. 2) Van Halen concert: Saw Eddie Van Halen duck down just in the nick of time to avoid getting hit by a firecracker. 3) Guns N' Roses concert: Axel Rose singlehandedly ruined the concert with one of his typical onstage diatribes that droned on and on. 4) Monsters of Rock concert: After standing in the sun at the old RFK stadium for 8 hours, I got badly sunburned. I also got hit in the head with a hotdog & bun and a shoe. Fans at the show started setting bonfires on the field.

It was April 1975, and in age of 15 years old, I want to see "deep purple " in Dortmund, germany. The eventhall was "Westfalenhalle ".It was the stormbringer tour. My Fahrer,my older brother and I went by train to Dortmund. What we dont really knowed it was a festival with many bands. I olny remember " Randy Pie ".The day went by and no deep purple. My brother and I was watching the show and my lovely father was waiting in the foyer. So far so good. Deep purple played at last. It was midnight and we had to go, to roll off with the last train at central station. We saw olny 2 tunes "Stormbringer and Burn" .Iam an extraordinary great deep purple fan since "Deep Purple in Rock " since 1970. Awesome band .It was the last concert with Mr. Blackmore before Rainbow.

I understand that it would have been upsetting to have to leave after only seeing two songs by Deep Purple, but I think you are very lucky. You actually got to see MK III Deep Purple and you saw them perform two of their greatest songs. I bet David Coverdale was singing his ass off back in those days.

Worst concert experiences (thankfully I didn't have too many). 1. 2017 Maryland Deathfest - While watching Akercoke some asshole in the upper level of the venue dumped an entire beer all over me prompting me to go hunting for them, probably good I didn't find them, then during Candlemass assholes on the upper level started throwing beer again and I got nailed a second time. First and last time I ever go to MDF ! 2. Monster of Rock show in Philly 1988 (I goofed and said it was 86 initially), the heat was insane and I ended up getting hammered and going out to the parking lot and falling asleep during Van Hagar's set, yeah that was on me ! 3. My first Rush concert in Feb 1980 , I had bought 6 ot 7 shirts for my 8th grade buddies and while walking to meet my ride I had them thrown over my shoulder and some prick ran by me and ripped them off .. Had to pay my mom back for reimbursing my friends. Back when concert shirts were 8$ for a baseball jersey

Worst experience for me was in 1987. I was at an outdoor reggae festival at a baseball stadium . The show had a phenomenal lineup -- Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott, Inner Circle and two dozen others. Toward the end of the final set we heard shots fired behind us. Everything stopped for a second, then the entire audience started running for the exits. We were about halfway across the field when the MC got on the PA and shouted for everyone to come back. No one was shot, he said. That was just how Jamaicans celebrated. Well, we stayed for another half hour, but the mood was gone and we left before it was over. All of my other bad experiences at shows were caused by audience members, not the bands or the venue. In most cases, it was drunk people spilling their drinks, puking, falling over and starting fights. I'm not against drinking and having a good time, just don't let your good time ruin it for everyone else.
