Any old fans of "WKRP In Cincinnati" might remember in the very first episode that when they changed the radio station over from easy listening to rock "n roll, DJ Dr. Johnny Fever threw the Lawrence Welk-type record that was playing across the room and put Ted Nugent "Queen of The Forrest" on the turntable and blasted it out over the airwaves - I became a instant fan of the show

Great show. Supposedly the reason you never see it on TV in reruns now is the music - they don't have the rights to it. There was one KRP mini-marathon on one of our cable stations last year & I noticed that the original songs had been replaced/cut out. The episodes weren't the same without the music...Oh the humanity!

Gotta agree with Pete on this one. Secret Treaties is just a special album beyond compare. It's one of a handful that I can think of where nearly every track could compete for my favorite on the album depending on my mood. Albert Bouchard's vocals on Dominance and Submission are totally underrated as well, nobody ever talks about how he kills it in that song.

What Martin dislikes about the first three BOC albums is exactly what I like about them, the mysterious, murky, moody sound and production. It's like music from a whole different universe, the universe pictured on the first and second album covers. I can't rate these because I don't own Kiss, but these shows are making me think of giving a chance to a few of their albums. That's what I love about SoT, the infectious love for music can make a person re-look at how they think about a certain band/artist.

If you are gonna start on a KISS mission of studio albums I recommend. 1. Hotter than Hell 2. Ace Frehley 3. KISS. Otherwise just start with the two live albums. Personally I dig the studio albums for their moods. I love Dynasty alot too but that's a contrarian pick. It's great. I'm shocked they didn't rate Ace's solo higher. It's a perfect album. The weakest album is always Peter's. But strictly KISS the weakest is Love Gun. You really can't go wrong with any of the 70's records if big dumb rock is interesting. Destroyer might be a good one to start with if you are a big Alice or BOC fan. Personally I can't make it all the way thru a Ted record except the old greatest hits one. Way too much filler. He really had no business being mentioned in this ranking.
@aldebaran4154

@@captainkirk70 Thank you for the suggestions. Blue Oyster Cult is a top 5 favorite band of mine so they would have dominated my top 10. In high school I was a drummer in a band and we played two Kiss songs, Love Gun and Firehouse. I preferred Firehouse so the first album may be my starting point. I'm sure I'll enjoy the 70's Kiss stuff because I like dumb, silly lyrics 70's rock like Ted Nugent, and Kiss can be just as dumb of not dumber than Ted. I like my music intelligent like Peter Hammill, and I like my music stupid like Ted. 😂

@@aldebaran4154 They really were good song writers. 99% of people prefer the versions on Alive. And I certainly used to. But as I got older I started to like the studio versions. They're kinda charming. And none of records sound the same except for songwriting style. If you find that the studio cuts are kinda lacking then definitely give Alive a whirl before giving up. It's those songs on steroids. KISS probably would have broken up without it as their records weren't living up to their concerts. They were deeply in debt because those records weren't selling and their shows were expensive to put on. I greatly prefer KISS to Ted. Alice would have been a better pick especially since they put the Amboy Dukes records into the mix.I think the Alice run from Love it to Death to Billion Dollar Babies is just fantastic. I think you will dig them. But then there's the nostalgia factor to think about. I was 8 in '78 and KISS was like a dream band for a kid. My walls were covered in their posters. Really tasty solos by Ace too. They're like songs within songs. I know them without really knowing them if that makes sense. Definitely give Destroyer a chance. It's generally looked at as their finest studio record. Total Bob Ezrin production. And for a Greatest Hits I recommend Double Platinum. It came out in 1978 and alot of care was put into it to make the different productions into a cohesive sound. For me, it's all about burnout. I rarely reach for an album these days but they are in my DNA by now. I'm 54. Since you're a drummer you'll probably either love or hate Peter. But many highly technical drummers love him and know he was integral to the original sound that made them famous. Without him it would kinda be like John Bonham playing with the Beatles. But not comparing him to Bonham or Ringo. And Peter definitely doesn't make or break a KISS song.

@@jimilove7773 Absolutely. A lot of people hate them, and for awhile I thought it was maybe just nostalgia but they really were great. Especially when you compare them to others in their category. I wouldn't put them against the Stones or Zeppelin but they made far better albums than people give them credit for. Only a few filler tracks during their heyday. I even love The Elder. Lol. But I stop when the make up came off. Plus Ace was always my favorite member. I remember when I went to the Creatures tour the ad in the paper was a picture of the cover. Had no idea Ace wasn't still in the band. They kept that secret as long as they could. I think the show was one of the first dates on the tour. As a kid I had no idea that Peter and Ace weren't playing on some of the make up albums. Just took the cover for granted. It was a bummer that night but I got over it and still enjoyed the show. But had no idea who was playing guitar. I don't think they introduced Vinny at all.

This video brings up a topic I think would be great for the show. “What are the best eras of different bands?” In other words, was it the beginning of their careers, middle or latter part which produced the best albums? Some bands come out of the gate on fire, others change towards the end for the better.

Where did Martin rank BOC Agents of Fortune? I must have missed it. I was totally surprised to see Pete rank Spectres as high as he did. I thought that was quickly ranking up as one of his top 5 BOC albums.

My top ten would consist of all six of the BÖC albums, Aero’s Toys and Rocks, Destroyer by KISS and probably Teddy’s 🧸 first record due to the immense “Stranglehold.” Another great show, gentlemen. Keep up the stellar and interstellar work! Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍏 Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo! Your pal and mine, ~ The Dreaded, Shredded and Unleaded Davey Cretin from CRETIN CLASSICS.

Question for Martin. Why a dilike of the B&W period? That was the birth of Sand-Oyster-Cult. Without that period, and Sandy Pearlman. They would have never launched. (Period). And all those 'deep dives' performed still today! The are amazing how they took those. Then built around them. Just enough to justify a reason for it 'all'.....

You could do the whole catalog of Alice cause it’s almost like doing a few different bands with all his styles changing constantly, he must be getting close to 30 albums by now with more on the way. It would be a great discussion

Aerosmith is my second favorite band and I think the debut is greatly underrated! Yes the production sucks but Movin Out, Mama Kin, One Way Street, obviously Dream On. Not on the same level as Toys or Rocks or Wings but underrated

Hey Pete, Can you do a PSA about tinnitus & taking care of your ears as a muic fan? I've been suffering from it because of too many loud shows & as a musician being onstage & too many hrs of recording with loud headphones on. Can't listen to music like I used to because certain frequencies that make the condition worse day to day. Musicians like Huey Lewis, Ozzy, Neil Young, Lars, Pete Townsend, Dave Grohl, Moby & Streisand have publicly dicussed of heir suffering from tinnitus. One loud show can cause it for a lifetime. It sucks! Thanks Pete, love your channel!

Great show guys. I think Alice Cooper would have fit even better than BOC. Now I've ranked these albums but I must say ahead of the list. I've never been into BOC as much as the other three principal groups. Now I've seen Kiss 10 times starting in 1975. I've seen Aerosmith 6 times starting in 1976 I've seen Ted Nugent 11 times starting in 1976 when he opened for Black Sabbath & blew them off the stage. Now Blue Oyster Cult I've seen them 3 times & it's never been because of them. I seen Rainbow open for them. I seen the Black & Blue tour with Sabbath when Dio was in the band. And the last time they was part of the Summer Daze Tour with Steppenwolf, Foghat & Pat Travers. Oh, & I've seen Alice Cooper 16 times starting in 1973. My list. 1. Rocks 2. Ted Nugent 3. Kiss 4. Cat Scratch Fever 5. Toys In The Attic 6. Free For All 7. Hotter Than Hell 8. Weekend Warriors 9. Ace Frehley 10. Dress To Kill 11. Aerosmith 12. Night In The Ruts 13. Love Gun 14. Get Your Wings 15. Destroyer 16. State Of Shock 17. Rock & Roll Over 18. Draw The Line 19. Tooth Fang & Claw 20. Call Of The Wild 21. Survival Of The Fittest live 22. St. Paradise 23. Blue Oyster Cult 24. Secret Treaties 25. Mirrors 26. Spectres 27. Agents Of Fortune 28. Dynasty 29. Tranny & Mutation 30. Paul Stanley 31. Marriage On The Rock/Rock Bottom 32. Gene Simmons 33. Peter Criss
