the shirt i have on for Russ’ side project Tanith (he’s still the guitarist for Satan), absolutely 10,000% recommend their 2019 album In Another Time on metal blade records for anyone who really loves 70s Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy or the great US band Ashbury. It’s spent as much time in the stereo as the newer Satan albums!

I'll have to check it out, and this Ashbury band you mentioned.

Thanks Ryan - just checked out both Tanith's In Another Time and Ashbury's Eye of the Stygian Witches on Deezer - brilliant stuff I think I prefer Tanith over Ashbury though theirs is damn good too. Love the shared male /female singing with Tanith and the guitar work is great. Unfortunately my finances are extremely tight at the moment but I'll add to my list of wants - could just download the mp3 version from Amazon as its half the cost, however I much prefer having the physical product.

Shame you didn't include thsi one and Pariah albums, because these are the same guys on all albums , only singers are different.Lou Taylor,the singer of Blind Fury, actually formed it with Kevin Heyborn from Angel witch and they made demo in 83.Heyborn than left and guys from Satan joined the band. Satan is freaking awesome. I completely agree that they're one of the very few bands, if not the only one, who effortlessly walk the line between creating new material and staying true to the old school sound, and THEIR signature sound. Not to mention, they are all absolutely stand up dudes. I always love seeing them. And I also agree with the short and sweet, ten track albums being hard hitting and ending gracefully and leaving you wanting more. That is a hallmark of most of my favorite albums in life.

1.Blaze of obscurity Highlights: Puppet regime and Canary 2.Suspented sentence/Into the future Highlight: Key to oblivion which is one of the best songs of all time. Michael Jackson is one of the best singers I have ever heard in my 43 years in metal. People tell the story he is still a pop/rock singer. But I don't really know. 3.The kindred Highlight: Scapegoat All other 6 albums are very good too. The reason why the band came back was a festival called Keep it true. The organizer who lives here where I live has been working for years to bring the band back for a show. They did not want to do it. Finally they agreed for one show and it was so succesfull that they continued on. Every time they play here fans ask them to play songs from the albums you don't want to talk about.The answer is always that the band loves the albums but espacially Michael Jackson was so unique and good that they think it would not sound good wtih the current singer. They never changed the style but the band name for non musical reasons. Thank you that you support this lesser known band.

Thanks Pete and Ryan - got into Satan a few years back when I rediscovered my love for NWOBHM after not listening to any of it for a good 25 years or so. I had started to move on from NWOBHM bands by the time Satan came on the scene - had they been around a couple of years earlier they may have been much bigger. Agree that the last three albums are all excellent - Court in the Act is great but the production sucks. Blind Fury's album is good -however I think Lou Taylor was the singer on that one. I have the Suspended sentence and Into the Future ep CD and agree its the least best. Brian Ross of course also featured in Metallica favourites Blitzkrieg as well as Avenger - both had 2 cd compilations out a few years back and both also very good. Thanks for the tip about Tanith I'll have to check them out as the Tippins/Ramsey guitar axis is great.

The late great Roky Erickson had a MAJOR influence on Satan in terms of sound, subject matter and so much more. Just listen to Roky's album "The Evil Ones" from 1981 and get back to me ;-). Songs like: Stand For The Fire Demon, I Think Of Demons, If You Have Ghosts, Haunt, Bloody Hammer, Don't Shake Me Lucifer, Burn The Flames, I Walked With Zombies, It's a Cold Night for Alligators, etc.. In fact, most of those songs were already released in the mid 70's when he performed them with Blieb Alien (Roky Erickson and the Aliens).
@seaoftranquilityprog4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I'm not hearing it. Other than horror themed song titles and lots of guitar solos, it's psychedelic rock (and good psychedelic rock) with a rootsy, almost Southern flair. No resemblance to the music of Satan to my ears whatsoever. Whether the band listened to him or not I have no idea.
@Danimal774 жыл бұрын
@@seaoftranquilityprog That's cool. Our ears hear different things. Btw, I was telling the people in the comments to check out Roky's solo career work. To me the all-time best Satan was the first demo titled, oddly enough, THE FIRST DEMO. I believe it was the only one with Trevor Robinson on vocals and it was *ferocious* ...."Oppression" is _still_ an all-timer. Naturally, I leaped at the chance to pick up Court in the Act (from the legendary Zig Zag Records) but I was stunned - alas, with disappointment - at the new singer (Brian Ross). In retrospect there was nothing wrong with it, but it seemed a world away from the balls-out underground/Gothic majesty of that demo. Maybe I ought to give them another try, though.
@chrismuimbwa64244 жыл бұрын
Suspended Sentence and Into the Future might have their most challenging guitar work and undoubtedly have their tightest rhythm section performances ever. If you think not on terms Songs but in terms Pieces you might have to rank them otherwise. For example Avalanche Of A Million Hearts is an underestimated piece.

Absolutely agreeing about the best Comeback in Metal comment. Saw them couple of times and they really ripped every time - I mean these guys are in their late 50s or so and bring up so much energy! I also like your rankings but too bad you left out the Into the Future EP and the Kiss of Death Single - I know, it’s called Ranking the Albums and Not Ranking Everything but especially NWOBHM Bands got often much more to offer than their regular Albums.
