It’s been two yrs now since I’ve taken up hiking and I’ve made plenty of mistakes but thankfully all them were on moderate terrain & less than 5miles long. Things can get bad real quick if you aren’t prepared

4L water is a good starting point. I took 3.5 and was wishing I had more. Salty/sugary snacks. Don't underestimate Mt. Olympus

I ended up with heat stroke the last time I hiked to the top of Mount Olympus, years ago. We used up all of our water before we were half-way down and didn't realize that it would be 104 degrees in the lower part. A hiker headed up shared a couple of swallows, that helped. I didn't have to get rescued, but it took a day or two to recover. Maybe someone could put together a set of decent instructions for hikers to help them be better repared to hike there in the summer.

The National Parks are really good at doing that, you just have to look at the information boards at the start of the trail or stop at the information centers. They also have an app to get all the maps , checklists and important info about weather & closures
