What a beaut. I've only ever gotten into crappies like that a couple times, and it was on a private lake in north-central Wis that doesn't see much pressure. We caught them on fly rods with poppers, and was that a thrill to battle crappies that size on light fly rods. Gotta be so careful when they get to that size. They don't call them paper-lips for nothing.

Glad I live in PA, 12-16" crappie are common here, I feel sorry for you. Your 15.5 first crappie was so skinny. 4lb crappie are regular occurrences when we get safe ice.

There's no such thing as a 13, 14 inch bluegill around here. State record was 12 inches and that was caught on Green Bay, of all places! But I believe you when you say there are some nice bluegills, but probably more lie 10 inchers than 14
@raymondcieslak88222 жыл бұрын
Agree, I caught a 13.5 in redear sunfish in AZ. Weighed 2.5lbs. no 13 or 14 in WI biggest I ever caught in WI was 11.5 in gill in minocqua
@jonh37492 жыл бұрын
I have seen a few 12s caught in Bayfield County. 13 would not be impossible. 14 would be hard to believe.
@The-Capitalist2 жыл бұрын
The state record goes by weight, not length.

State records are by weight only. Ive caught 13-13.5" gils in michigan but never a 14.

Beautiful crappie man, and way to let it go well said about releasing those trophy fish! I would have been tempted to put it on the wall honestly. If you ever want to team up with me and get out on the Mississippi River backwaters let me know 👍

These days you don't need to keep it to put it on the wall. Measure it up and get good pics and you can get a replica that looks just as good as a real taxidermy.

Is there a reason for the blue lense you use on your big camera? It's just kinda weird when it switches from that to your go pro that looks so clear and vibrant.

I would like to connect with you- idk if your familiar with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association but I coach for one of the teams in New Richmond Wisconsin when I’m not fishing or hunting myself. Under Farside I help promote the Youth Angling Sports with the head coach, it’s a lot of fun to fish with them. I’d really like to do a project with you!

Plus you just don't want to eat a big donkey like that. Not the best eating. And if you care about toxins, the bigger and older a fish, the more bioaccumulation of toxins
