Searching For The Lost Silver Spear Mine

This week I'm searching for a mine - the Silver Spear Mine. This was at one point the main mining operation at Cerro Gordo...and I knew nothing about it until Christmas this year.
That's when a family sent me their grandmother's journal. She was the caretaker at Cerro Gordo from 1939-1942. These are years that aren't covered in the history books up here. Inside the journal, she often referred to the "Silver Spear" mine. So this week, I decided to try to find and explore that mine...

Thank you all so much for checking out the video! I really hope you'll subscribe to the channel so you can see all the future videos! In the coming weeks I have a big building restoration, more explorations, and a special guest in the works. Hope to see you around. Let me know below what other types of videos you'd like to see and maybe some special guests I could work on getting out here! Tag them! If you haven't already, check out some of my other mine exploration videos. @Basket Weaver wow that’s cool to find someone who believes what I do. I think either Sam or another searcher found it, but I do believe that more treasure could be there. Remember nearly 100 years after Sam lived, the chappells found the Chappell vault that had residue of gold and parchment on the drill bit. Sam either found most of it, or there are 2 stashes.

@@chascarpenter5006 I tried to do some research but knowing the parents names were Francis and Curtis wasn’t enough. There wasnt much information from the 3 years they were there probably because there was very few people living there but all I found was a Curtis in death records but that was before they lived there so it was the wrong Curtis. I couldn’t find anything on Francis because the search results would be about San Francisco. If I knew the last name, I could probably find who their kid is but he never mentioned the last name. This is the kind of thing that would likely require Brent to do it because he has the book written by Francis so he may be able to search for names or more specific information on that family.

Also to be a haul route that will ease wear on your water sourcing and supply vehicles. 2nd snow job: Upgrade station(s) a year (or few) later so visitors to the newly rebuild hotel may enjoy everything responsibly. 3rd snow job: Hope everyone that loves your videos, and visitors of the reawakened site, will respect the life and prosperity that you are single handedly inspiring people to appreciate in the history of a forsaken, yet beautiful, landscape. While they definitely didn't stop being used completely, what Brent should have said is wide use started being phased out in the 1890s. Back then you wouldn't just throw out nails for nothing so I'm sure whatever supply that still existed was used for various things decades later.

Same, I keep thinking of how dangerous it is to be alone out there in the boonies. One slip.... We used to explore that town and a few of the mines in that area back in the 70’s. We always were a small group in dune buggies that were street legal... and it still was sketchy. Never went too far in the mines as at the time there was no shortages of nitro sweat-beaded dynamite and blasting powder. Love this channel - definitely something I look forward to every week :)

The editing as you read the journal entries was really nice. I also appreciated the levity of the sled scenes. You talked about seeing tracks of animals, you should consider getting some game/trail cameras to set up, and if they prove to capture a fair amount, maybe work those clips into your videos.

Never lose that outlook on life my friend. Sadly, too many of us take too long, or just don't realise how quickly time has passed before the slowing down and letting everything soak in thing begins. That's why grandparents are so important. We quite often focus pinpointedly when younger. Job, house, good schools etc. It's only later the appreciation gene kicks in and the outlook you have and express becomes clearer every day. You're definitely headed in the right direction. Town plans, outlook, philosophy and spirit. I'll give you 10yrs to learn more & build everything the way you want. Then I'm bringing the wife with me (from Oz) and pick your brain of all the bits we don't get to see in your vlogs =D

I really hope there are young folks out there keeping detailed diaries. I used to keep them, but went through a phase and burned everything I ever wrote. "For my eyes only"... it was liberating so I don't regret it. I found my peace in tattoos for a good while. My diary entries are written on human skin. And I like it that way. But diary entries are some of the most amazing pieces of writing ever. And I truly appreciate every diary entry I have ever heard or read.

The most thing I love about your channel is how you end with positives and each time there’s a new positive way you end your vlog about Cerro Gordo. I do want to visit before we move away from Cali and I think I’d want to go during winter because the hills looks fun to go sledding in. Specially if I take my kids. We don’t mind winter less critters I hope and don’t mind out houses because we’ve had those as well and grew up with them on reservations. Running water no problem either. Can go at least 3 days no showers but know how to do sponge baths. But looks like a nice not so busy area to have fun when snow comes.

So glad a normal person did this and it's not a Discovery channel histo-reality show with dramatic music for nothing happening and then a commercial break with a teaser for something potentially dramatic happening after the break, and then after the break a recap of the first part of the show.... And then nothing dramatic happens and rinse and repeat till the end. This is infinitely more interesting and educational
