Thank you! This video was exactly what I needed to fix up my Sears graduate. I found it at a thrift shop for just 8 bucks. It’s in wonderful condition, other than the capital and lower case not lining up. Now it works perfectly. Thanks again!

If this is one of the ones with a flat belt, you can actually get them running pretty good with 2x good old goodie brand hair ties. I got my brown sears scholar running that way and it's worked ever since. If one ever breaks then oh well, slap another cheap hair tie on it. 1 tie doesn't run the power return and 3 prevents the motor from starting so 2 is the sweet spot.

Thanks for the comment and Yes this is true, I have also gotten various things to work, temporarily . . . . But I'm an established Typewriter repair business, I can't Re-Sell a typewriter running on rubber bands or hair ties That would just be bad business . . . . .

@@phoenixtypewriter2136 well, obviously I wasn't suggesting you do as such. Just making note of it.

Thank you for posting this. Just used it to adjust my sears communicator which appears to be nearly identical. Everything is working well, except for the "B" key. Nothing happens when I press the key. Seems like all of the mechanical connections are in place. Any suggestions on an attempt to fix it?

Would it be possible to turn one into a manual typewriter?

Thanks for this Duane - so happens it helped me fix the exact same problem with my Olympia Reporter Electric, made by Nakajima in Japan. Under the hood, my machine looks almost identical to the Sears, so I wonder if the Sears was also manufactured by Nakajima?
@phoenixtypewriter21363 жыл бұрын
Yes same manufacture, Nakajima, Olympia & Sears aren't the only ones to put their badge on these units
