So the Lighthouse ritual, when completed, produces a "clone" of the performer that possesses their best qualities (confidence, charisma etc.) amplified. Unfortunately the original person basically has his/her soul or life essence sucked out and starts to melt away while the clone takes their place. Once the ritual starts the performer cannot back out and will be trapped in limbo until it is complete. Seems like the black goo creatures are other people who had come to the lighthouse and their hideous moaning was probably them trying to warn newcomers to stay away.

Damn. That would probably explain why the player is suddenly super short at the very end. It's more easier if you compare the player's height with the rails. Because he is slowly turning into a pile of goo at that point already.

Maybe or it could be a 2deep4u warning that in an effort to try too hard to become what is "good" and liked and to forget every other part of yourself even what you may deem undesirable that you eventually will lose what it means to be you entirely. Maybe he did get what he wanted and the "black goo" version of himself was all the undesirable parts of him. The other version was still himself but with the rest stripped away. At the end of the day though you are you. Desirable and undesirable, and that's not to be forgotten or burned away.

I think is more deeper than that. I think is about a mental "rebirth", leaving the bad thoughts (35 minutes) behind and starting again, free of any guilty.

I really liked the story of this game, to not get too spoilery, the ending was a surprise for sure. I like how this game doesn't have any jumpscares and that it relies entirely on its atmosphere to unsettle you.

This was quite excellent. It shows the important of silence, the ambiance of the sounds themselves are enough to greatly unsettle the player, no need for audio cues to everything.

For this game, I can see the notes being replaced with a single voice actor and it working just as well, if not better. Maybe add in some dialogue here and there for the first few nights, show him gradually getting more restless. That or there be a journal mechanic so we can see his thoughts, rather than having them be written and magically scattered on the ground. (Though waking up one morning to find his journal destroyed and pages scattered across the lighthouse would make for a good scare, really amp up the feeling that you aren't safe there.)
