Ran out of time this month! So I've recorded this seaside short by Hugh Walpole to "tide" you over. It's a sort of companion piece to "Tarnhelm", recounting the author's apparently autobiographical experience in Seascale, Cumbria. I'm waiting to record (and release soon) my own new seaside story, "The Southton Mermaid". Look out for it!

an excellent choice, I always feels Walpole doesn't get the attention he deserves, so nicely done :)

Yes, very underrated and, even on the internet, undiscussed. But his strange stories are quite remarkable.

That bicycle bell, crunch of pebbles beneath tires ... ham sandwiches, boiled eggs & gingerbread/s ...I'd eat that in a minute especially w/ *Miracle Whip* a type of US salad dressing/sandwich spread just like mayo w/out the spices. Loved this visit to the seashore & beach ... always interesting to have a child's POV. Thank You for putting me there *Jasper L'Estrange* 👍👍👍👍👍

Very evocative, isn't it? We always used to eat ham sandwiches at the beach, along with a flask of coffee, usually behind a wind break, as it was often...bracing 😄

Blimey oh reilly!! That was a hair-raiser. Like many, I’m having a bugger of a time of it at the moment but, if it’s quite the right thing to say, this has properly perked me up! Thank you (I think) 😀♥️

The story oddly hangs. I love the description of the sand and wind and the rock... The whole very very English. I look forward to your story.

Awesome story and narration. I love stories of these little towns. They remind me of being a kid. The food they discuss brings back great memories. Walpole really knew how to get it done! Thanks!

@@EnCryptedHorror will added some Walpole to my reading list for my book review show. I did wonder if he was related to Horace Walpole, but couldn't find anything to suggest that he was.
@EnCryptedHorror2 жыл бұрын
I think he may have been related in some way but I'd need a pen and paper to work it out 😄 Quite a lot of connected Walpoles on Wikipedia.
