The first two times I crossed the Gulf on a cannery tender headed to Seattle, 1973 and 1975, the Gulf was like a pond save for the gentle roll. I thought the old-timers must have been exaggerating talking about how rough it can be. The next two times, 1977 and 1978, I found out what they were talking about. Thankfully, I never got seasick, but you sure get beat up after a few days.
