An interesting note here. The "Stooges" didn't know how popular they were even during their time. When contract renewals came up they were often told by the powers that be that nobody was really interested in this sort of comedy anymore and were made to believe that the studio was doing them a favor by resigning them to another contract, meaning that the studio was underpaying them.

Corrections: the cigarette lighter and eye glasses were not bloopers. They were intentional anachronisms to accentuate the absurdity of the Stooges.

I love the fact the first time the word "sexy" was used it wasn't referring to Lauren Bacall or Bette Davis or any other beautiful actresses of the day. Nope it was Moe telling Curley while he dresses in drag.

This short had a gag which they did on Cy Schindell, When Cy Schindell's character gets knocked out, the stooges decided to make him work like a puppet. This gag was also done in Fright Night 1947 with Shemp making his return, and the remake fling in the ring 1955

Appreciate your comments about Curly. I am sure we will get more into that. Many Curly fans don't seem to understand the circumstances surrounding the replacing of Curly. It was either use Shemp, another actor or end the Stooges. Just like on Bewitched with the two Darrins.

I do remember as a lad hearing Moe say "Go on get Se Y!" and laughing my butt off! Also during Disney's Reluctant Dragon when its said Don't be the silly "arse". Knowing film standards of the era, I wondered how these phrases "slipped" past the censors?

In the short, the reason that the Emperor thought Curly was Diana was because he couldn't see well without his glasses. Which made it funnier. What bugged me is that we never see the real Diana again after the scene where the Stooges came into her chambers and devised a plan to help her escape. I've always wondered if she ever did escape from the Emperor or not.

A blooper you missed was that they accidentally played the clip of Larry taking a sip from the chalice a second time while the king was flirting with Curly. It's really obvious. Moe and Larry switch spots. The chalice disappears from his hand afterwards. Larry already knew the drink was poisoned, so there was no reason to take another sip unless it was supposed to be a set up for a joke, but it wasn't.

the director says at 4:00 ''larry! grab a hold on the loin!'' seeing that the extras are wearing loin cloths it makes perfect sense! the director does have a bit of an accent making it sound like ''larry! grab a hold on the lawn'' just maybe the guy was southern and his accent got in the way of identifying the final word after ''The'' but, lawn and loin in this roman setting loin make the most sense of all.

They do show this on occasions but not as much. You could see that Curly's speech and health was beginning to change and decline. As you said he seemed off in this short.

Glenn Robbins-Unfortunately Curly copied his boss, Ted Healy, in the drinking department. He started drinking heavily in 1940, shortly after his second wife divorced him, the reason being he felt like a little kid with his head shaved, and that women would find him unattractive, plus he took to wearing a hat in public to mask his insecurity.

To those wondering how curly had a stroke, it was because in 1944 his health and his energy started draining away which made him slower, thinner and making his voice a little deeper but until the last short Half Wits Holiday he was supposed to be in the pie fight but the shot was only Moe and Larry, After the short made the final shot moe (Moses Horowitz) went to find his brother (Jerome Horowitz) who was appeared to be in the director's chair

There are photos of him holding a cleaver up with Moe, Larry, and Shemp. He was much thinner and was wearing a fake mustache and chef’s hat. You couldn’t tell it was Curly.

as a kid growing up in the 60's i must've watched every stooges short in syndication at least a dozen times. i don't remember them all but i don't think i ever saw this one. i don't think i ever remember any "costumed" 3 stooges short. in the k. c. tv market of the times i watched the 3 stooges on a program call "tory and old gus." old gus was a handpuppet of an old man with a big moustache. it must have been an hour show. they had a three stogges short, popeye and old warner brothers cartoons in every episode. btw, never liked the lobster gag. and, as a kid, i always hated moe because i thought he so mean. i felt sorry for larry and curly. now, i think i'll do a YT search for "tory and old gus."

R9G, surely you jest when you say the title of this flick might be pronounced "Ma-TRI-phony". It's clearly a play on the words matrimony and phoney given the plot. Octopus Grabbus has matrimony on the mind. Curly is the phoney " bride". Brides don't come any phonier (or funnier) than a bald 38 year-old man passing himself off as a "sexy" woman between 18-22 years old. Hence, the proper pronunciation of this 3 Stooges short must be Matri- PHONy".
