This is really where the show hits it's stride. Season 4 to 7 or 8 is probably what most people would agree is the absolute best seasons. They've built up all the characters for 3 seasons and now they get to do the big emotional moments. You're going to love it man.

4x01 is one of the funniest episodes in my opinion. From the dramatic telling by Monica, Chandler and Joey to Ross's reaction to the letter and the fight between him and Rachel. The way Rachel says "You fell ASLEEP?" and Ross's fake crying kills me every time 😂 And unfortunately (or fortunately), peeing on a jellyfish sting would more likely aggravate the injury by releasing more venom and therefore be more painful. So no, it's not true.

The whole bit with the cat bugs me every time. Phoebe says "I believe this cat is my mom, and even if I'm wrong, who cares?" The obvious answer Ross should've given there is that the little girl who misses her cat probably cares. That is absolutely not the time to be a "supportive friend"; that's the time to give your friend a metaphorical kick in the ass and tell her she can't steal a little girl's cat.

The episode ending with Ross being ridiculed for being the only person in the room willing to act like an adult rubbed a lot of viewers the wrong way.

Phoebe was talking about Ross' criticism of her beliefs b/c she was trying to respect her mother's choice. When Rachel asked her about the little girl, she had no problem letting the cat go. It gets a bit clearer if you put yourself in Phoebe's perception that the cat is an actual human being. Given that this is a sitcom, there are actually moments where she shows certain supernatural abilities such as hearing Joey singing in his own thoughts. In real life context, when dealing w/ people who have psychological trauma, it's probably not a good idea to target their "stupidity" in an attempt to change their minds.

There was a kinder way to walk her through that without treating her like she's crazy or stupid for thinking this. Pheobe is incredibly kind and sympathetic, so all she needed was another gentle nudge or two, or maybe even just a few minutes to adjust, but instead he attacked her belief system and belittled her. No matter what you believe, that is not ok.

The show really cracks something here by figuring out how to have a funny break-up, even for a long-running couple. The writers get really good at this over the next few seasons, getting everything they want out of a pairing for an arc and then hilariously ending it in a single episode in absolutely absurd situations. Which I think is great as every relationship can't be Ross and Rachel or Monica and Richard and the ones that aren't going to be emotional like that are better off being tuned towards maximum comedy.

It really maximizes the comedy like you said and keeps the arcs so fresh, so much talent going around in the creation of this show, it’s no wonder it’s a timeless hit!

"18 Pages! FRONT AND BACK!!!" Been quoting this for 8 years, and it's still so much fun. :P WELCOME TO SEASON 4!!! Possibly tied with Season 5 as my Top Favorites out of all 10 Seasons!!! I've also been extremely curious about what your opinion would be regarding "The One with the Cat," mostly because of how much you love Phoebe, but also because you're so good at seeing multiple opposing sides of a nuanced, complicated moral situation. And you are also extremely well-spoken overall. : ) This episode is one of the top examples in which viewers seem to be frustrated with the episode's narrative and implication that Ross was in the wrong and being an asshole. Because as much as fans DO get peeved with Ross...A LOT, the general consensus among most fans today is that Ross was correct to be blunt and honest with Phoebe about the cat, and that it's infuriating how the other friends did not back him up during the confrontation. And while I agree that Phoebe couldn't have continued to keep a little girl's pet for herself just because of her own personal trauma and beliefs, Ross still could have gone about it more respectfully, and I don't blame the other friends for being uncomfortable given the very delicate subject. And it's certainly not out-of-character for Phoebe to feel this way, and I STRONGLY disagree with the other common opinion that this plotline was too ridiculous for this show. It's actually one of my favorites.

I’m LOVING season 4 so far, I’m not surprised it’s one of your favorite seasons. The plot line/ writing with Ross and Rachel in episode 1 was simply perfection As far as Phoebe and the cat situation, I don’t remember exactly what my take was in the video. Generally I think we all know Phoebe had to give the cat back so Ross was right on that level, but I honestly just loved the buildup until Ross had to apologize at the end because his discomfort was so funny, and fit so well with his character trait of “needing” things to be accurate/ factual. As far as Phoebe, she’s a sensitive soul so I think that communication and even confrontation with her should be done with gentleness, not only cause that’s just decent but also cause that is going to be much more effective in getting through to her. Plus, Phoebe cares so much about family and it’s a very delicate situation like you said. But I had no idea it was considered “too ridiculous” or anything I mean this is Friends we’re talking about 😂 I thought it was a great storyline, super funny and also appropriate/ fitting given Phoebe’s discovery of her Mom at the end of last season 👌

Ross wasn't wrong about telling Phoebe about the cat's owner, and she certainly didn't take offense to that information. But when she started talking about respecting the cat's choice, he began criticizing her belief, which then led to a conflict between them. When Rachel asked Phoebe what she's gonna do about the little girl, the latter had no problem letting the cat go. It's of course very easy to see this from Ross' POV that the cat is just a lost pet. But if you put yourself in Phoebe's shoes, your perception is that the cat is a human being.

You know, I can personally relate to both of these episodes. I got stung by a jellyfish as a kid, and my college dorm room was robbed. By the way, if anyone's interested, Monica did not exaggerate how painful a jellyfish sting is. Imagine being stabbed from the inside with electrified barbed wire. It was probably the most painful experience of my life, and that includes recovering from hernia repair surgery.

I've been stung by a jellyfish when I was a child, you put vinegar on to ease the pain. I think that's why I find this plotline so ridiculously funny, because they could've avoided such a embarrassing situation 😅 Chandler sitting on the armchair and screaming never fails to make me laugh 😂 The breakup between Ross and Rachel in this season premiere has to be one of my favorite R&R moments, it's so entertaining. David's performance is top-tier, his facial expressions are the best. Some Jennifer's lines like "we are SOOO overrr" are the best, I can't help but say it out loud.

Thank you! I record myself using my trusty Sony FX 3 mirrorless camera, record my audio separately using a shotgun mic, and then screen record the episode using OBS while I watch. When I’m done recording, I put all the files on my computer and edit using Davinci Resolve :) hope that helps!

No, that peeing on the jellyfish sting is not true! It doesn't do anything to it! Best thing to do is to wait for it to pass! Year after year I have noticed the summers are getting warmer and this year it was crazy warm so there was a fleet of jellyfish that invaded the shore and people couldn't go in to swim without getting stung everywhere! So I went in, catching them and throwing them out of the water. I must have caught more than 50 of em! Got stung a couple of times but it was worth it because after two hours of me clearing the shore everyone started going in for a swim! I did this for about 3 days straight and then there were fewer of them but always present! A bit annoying frankly.
