Even as a die hard fan I have agree the season is too long. I think 10 and 10 with the 3 smx rounds would be fine.
@RobertJones-ix2hu8 күн бұрын
Think 10 SX is a bit too few. Maybe -12-13 SX with a 1 week mid-season break -3 week break (normally 2) -10 MX with a 1 week mid-season break -2 week break -3 SMX I think that would pretty much be the same overall schedule as now except the 3 series season would end around a month earlier & add a month to their off-season
@Lancer20048 күн бұрын
My concept is 15sx, 10mx, 3smx with breaks every 5 rounds. Then for the break in MX make it a 2 week break for Loretta’s. The break between sx and Mx would 3 weeks, and break between Mx and smx would 2 weeks

So much money in SX, 14, 9, and 5 SMX rounds would probably be pretty great for these boys

At what point do these guys stop training as much during the week? Everybody complains about the Monday through Friday and how taxing the longer seasons are because of it. With 31 races a year they're not going to lose the conditioning that they have, they just aren't. Race day is a conditioning day as well, especially for outdoors. I'm not saying that they don't train at all, but at what point is the conditioning hurting them? It definitely hurts them mentally based on how many pros retire before they're 30 (until this generation). Why not focus most of the week on bike skills and more targeted bike training?
@andyhughes80517 күн бұрын
Because they are professional athletes. This isn't backyard football. They only way they get a break from training is if there is a longer off season.
@willh10827 күн бұрын
@andyhughes8051 no shit it's not backyard football lol. But there is such a thing as over training which I do think many of them do based on interviews I've seen. Look how many guys get burnt out at aldens as an example. I could be wrong, maybe they aren't over training, but listen to what they say about the mxgp guys, aside from having less races, the training isn't nearly as grueling either.
@seangavingregory43678 күн бұрын
its a joke with what these guys get paid. They should ALL Strike... for at a MINIMUM, 10 less rounds + multiple 2 week breaks. Higher win purses would be gravy.
@MichaelAMyers19578 күн бұрын
The only payout that's a joke is race pay. Anyone on a factory team, or even good satellite team, is making good money. They could also make more money by making themselves marketable. Yet the vast majority don't. That's on them.
@MichaelAMyers19578 күн бұрын
10 less rounds ? Put the black tar down.

Divide the series between east and west? Rotating race venues giving more riders a chance to proof themselves.

They can't stop training during mid season break. I think they would prefer to wrap up the season sooner and not have a break at all.

Double headers during the California swing. I loved the mid week races during Covid. The series doesn’t need to be competing against football. Drop one supercross and one motorcross along with a double header and the season ends Labor Day
@MJBOGAN8 күн бұрын
There was already talk a decade ago about how the back to back all year AMA SX MX calendar is too brutal. They've simply added this bonus series to the end of it all. You can't do a Chad and sit out MX, and still qualify for SMX playoffs, so theyre leveraging the big purses to overwork the guys.
@Erick-di9gm8 күн бұрын
Been starting to feel guilty watching the races. These guys go thru a lot just for our entertainment. But would rather have less races that were gnarly tracks than 31 where they doze and flatten the jumps!!
@deanwcampbell8 күн бұрын
I don't understand, there are 3 Championships in the year, they don't have to compete in all of them unless they want the money. If they do want the money, then you're going to need to show up. I think my work year is too long, but I don't have the option of sitting out of work for 5 months.
@theread34808 күн бұрын
They don’t have the option either unless they’re already a legend of the sport with huge leverage in negotiations

They need to suck it up. They already have plenty of time off. Plenty of us ride and go to the gym almost every day, then have a big ride on Saturday and / or Sunday, and we also work 40 to 70 hours a week on top of that. Suck it up, fruit cup. Do your job like the rest of us, and be thankful you get to make a living riding a motorcycle. Most of us don't have the talent. I know I never did.
@Aretumis2 күн бұрын
Yeah sure, tell that to any factory team.. They'll point to the door and say "no thanks, we'll find someone else." Not really an option unless you're like Tomac, Jett, etc. Even still I don't think Honda would go for something like that, ler alone any other team.
@1176hambone7 күн бұрын
The "TV" deal with NBC is what forces the season length and is therefore the cause of the problem. All this "network" commercial ad revenue goes to the promoter. Yet its mostly just Peacock streaming. NBC rarely broadcasts races. A real legitimate TV deal would broadcasts all the races. So really, its just a streaming deal. Maybe the goal is to get more NBC live broadcasts over time, as the ratings increase, getting SMX more exposure to new fans. This is an antiquated strategy. Viewers habits are to stream. SMX should just utilize and expand their own SMX streaming Network/Channel, and sell ad time directly. They are mostly likely carrying most if not all of the production cost already. By going "in-house" they can keep their talent in more races over time, and offer amateur race broadcast productions, and new SMX motocross shows. All of the ingredients are there.

The SX season is too long IMO. Stoked for the season to start every year but I’m over it 3/4 the way through with the 4-strokes on cookie cutter tracks and so much air time-it gets stale. I dig the SMX series with the hybrid tracks and outdoors is the heart so leave that alone and MXDN is the pinnacle so continue that tradition. Just my .02 as a fan since 78’.

I can see old school MX and SX fans saying these guys are just complaining.. But then they never did season's like this either.. Staying healthy through the entire race seasons makes a world of difference.. But most don't have that Ryan Dungey barely ever hit the ground and get hurt seasons.. Or even mainly like Tomac had been over a lot of his years as well.. The good, there are more races to make up for it.. The bad, there are so many races that it is likely to happen.. So it sort of goes either way.. And wins going to the ones that are in every race...
@lukekelly51158 күн бұрын
There's a way to circumvent the whole thing about burnout you start having drops and points in heat races and stop crossing the coasts your west coast rounds are all in a row and you stop letting mx sports use Indiana as a round just so they can leave all their equipment there and save themselves a trip.

MX Sports had everything to lose when WSX showed up yet they some how came out on top. In stead of paying the riders more so they would show up, they teamed up with Feld and strong armed WSX. Seems like the riders are over it, maybe they will form a riders union.

It was a little surprising that Eli was so wishy washy and didn't stand up for anything. Yeah, unfortunately that's the crap attitude of the MX/SX promoters. They really aren't getting a lot of money overall. Sure a little more for SMX but the rest of the season is total crap money wise! Look at what every rider has made for the year it's a complete joke! Compare Praters salary to what they are paying if they really want to talk crap. The riders and teams really need to unify together for a voice against Feld and MX Sports. Hopefully they keep talking about it and add the teams into the conversations as well. It needs to get to a management level with a unified voice.
