This is perfect timing, since I need to declutter before I move. I have to give the ‘future self’ approach a try!

I'm so glad this video is helpful for you! Happy moving!-- I also have noticed every time I move, I declutter before, but as soon as I arrive to my new spot and unpack, I realize “holy moly, I don’t need this, this, ect” and I end up getting rid of so much more. Moving will be great!

I had a recent redo of my closet (which my wife was asking me to do for a while!) but she was right i got rid of like 20% of the stuff in there. Most either didn't look great on me or just wasn't my style anymore. Definitely helped me find clothes that I wanted to use and was so deep in the closet they never saw the light of day. Loved how you made this video and its very informative. And it helps that you also articulate your ideas very well. A+

My daughter just did this yesterday. We filled two 30 gallon trash bags of donations and selling. They were nice clothes but her style has changed and there were so many things that she hardly ever wore. Now she keeps talking about how nice her closet looks! Sometimes a declutter is needed to clean house and soothe your soul.

That’s awesome! It's so nice to have a clean and organized closet. I hope to downsize more in the future

A good tipp I started asking myself whenever I am decluttering: what do I want to KEEP!!! ( that fits my lifestyle/body) when you take out all of those things, what is left? it makes it easier to realise what is unnecessary/ double/ never worn or used

The way I declutter my closet... I try to make an outfit with the item. If I can't, I toss it in the fabric box. If I can, then I try to wear the outfit for the day. If I get frustrated by the fit or just don't feel comfortable in it, it goes in the fabric box. That way I can reuse the fabric and make something cute out of it to keep or even gift it.
@ZeldasMask17 күн бұрын
The number one question I ask myself and it’s turned into the only one I really ask is ‘do I wear this’ if it’s no then I get rid. Doesn’t matter what the reason I don’t wear the piece is if I don’t wear it, it has to go. I don’t ask ‘does it spark joy’ because I can have some gorgeous pieces that absolutely spark joy but I don’t wear so it just sits and sits and collects dust. Ask ‘do I wear it’ if the past 12 months it’s a no, it has to go. And do I see myself wearing it ‘probably a no’ so it needs to go.

a good hobby or source of transformation is the art of alterations. weather it is that you have an excellent alterations person to invest the item's you need fitted or if you learn to cultivate that skill -it is a good salvage skill to look into.

Also: I have noticed that sometimes when we struggle to hold onto something -time is a solution to work past whatever it is that your feeling stuck on. it's ok to pause things for however long it takes for you to make up your mind.

I used to but my sewing machine broke recently and I didnt use it enough to replace it. I’m definitely going to look into the cost of getting items professionally altered

ND winters are no joke! Having an all season wardrobe can be tricky to narrow down!!
@shep-celsus17 күн бұрын
Get a stand-alone wardrobe! Put your next week's worth of clothes in it. Keep everything else in the closet and treat the closet like a shopping trip and only put stuff in the wardrobe from the closet as you need it. Check your wardrobe versus closet every 3 months. If there's something in the wardrobe you only wore once, put it back in the closet. If it was a nice dress for a dinner, put it in a dress bag in your closet. At the start of a new season or after 6 months or a year, do an honest assessment of the things in your closet that never made it into your wardrobe.
@justlanchen15 күн бұрын
I’ll have to try that! Thanks for the tip! I actually have a tiny coat closet I could use for this idea!

Hey Lanchen, you could wear a slip dress under a dress when it won't stop cropping up. And you can also dye clothes when you don't like the colour. Just some thoughts. I like your videos, thank you :)

I’ve tried dying some clothes but for some reason the color would just keep bleeding out. I don’t know why it happens every time I’ve done it 😭

First thing I want to say is that you are such a sweet and lovely woman who world hard to reach her goals and putts in the effort. You are open for suggestions and seems to Really listen. What I hear you say in this video are pretty definted topics why you cant declutter Some clothes. -You bought clothes to wear for a future vacation such as the dress of the Hawaï pants. -You want to treat yourself to a fancy event so you buy a dress for it. Like the shoes and dress -you like Some clothes just to look at ( does it any good in the closet or maybe you should put it to use as a decoration? -You have a certain fit that clothes need to have ( tightnes, fabric, loose, colour, feminine) -you are afraid to not have a outfit if you declutter to much. ( try to understand how many clothes you Really need as for work, lounge, everyday, your events you attent) also hoe often do you wash?) - get clear what you want from your clothes is it to feel a certaint way? Or do you buy and give your self permision to your fantasy self -you have for jobs and not a clear goal other than you want to win time on the descion making each day what to wear. And a clothing item that is practical is fine as long it is nice enough (no paint on it) -maybe a uniform for work is a great idea like Some minimalist have. Caterogize your clothes into seasons, work, fancy, your events, loungewear. Only that will make it smaller the portion to choose and search for. Try to write down what you say outloud and look at it from a third view. And give your self time, many people are on this journey with themsf for many years such as my self. For six years and I have three winter outfits as three Summer with three Nice dresses thats it (aaide from gymclothes) it work fine for me as for now. Nice video i hope you find something useful out of this and good luck. ❤

I think that this is a great approach. Your simplification of your piles to only "donate" and "sell" was also a good idea. BUT, I was disappointed to hear you casually say that you were going to donate an item with a broken zipper. I volunteer at a thrift store, and I can tell you that If you don't want it with a broken zipper, no one else will, either.
