Been to Ren Faire 3 times. My advice for newbies: eat as much food as you can and use the bathroom and bring water before you go, Ren Faire food is very expensive. Going with a well prepared costume is also much more fun. Practice your HEMA, spear and knife throwing if you wanna do carnival games. Study some European historical facts if you wanna rizz the actors.

Love this! Would also suggest comfy shoes that are also waterproof (despite them not matching a cute outfit), bc the NY ren Faire can be rainy/muddy!!

Your advice and ideas are actually SO much better than many channels I subscribe to. It's truly amazing to get advice on what to see, when to show up, how to dress in costume (if needed), the events and locations to interact with and all those amazing videos by you and others that explain how to immerse and enjoy. However, in the heat of the summer, in the bustle of a Ren Faire, *purely* practical advice is truly *truly* appreciated. Thank you so much for the practical real world advice. Things like this can make or break the enjoyment of a Faire. And now I'm going to post again and complain about the YT algorithm. 😄

Great tips! Another would be to incorporate a hat for sun protection.

Recommending trinkets first is a truly WILD take(I love you Lanchen) but yes most Faire's actively discourage this! In terms of bringing "more extroverted" people I would also argue that if you are introverted I would bring people who match your vibe. A lot of extroverted people will just want to drink and cause chaos(which is fine) but if you have more of an interest in shopping/seeing shows/roleplaying then I would bring people who are interested in the same things. Yes on the water and snacks if they allow you to bring the them inside. Umbrella, hat, fans, sunscreen-alllllll the protections. Cash is king, I am always shocked at the amount of people who expect to just pay with their phones. Pretend like it's the old times and bring paper money. You will also be a LOT more cautious with your spending if you have a set amount of cash.

With regard to the gifts, most refer to it as trinket trading...and is something you really need to be careful about since some faires completely ban it, others kind of have a thing of officially ban it while not actually doing anything about it. There's just a lot of idiots who create problems with it...either trying to use it to promote their own work, especially if they're giving things out that are closer to what is normally sold...or don't get the idea that not everyone does it. A nice pouch full of plastic pirate coins are an easy thing to do. For water, if you want something that blends in, grab a Bota Bag...they're normally made for wine, but work just as well for water, and while they work okay to blend in, it's not hard to dye one up and make it look even better. For snacks, be careful there as it's also something that a lot of faires don't allow.

So much this. I’m surprised Lanchen’s very first “must have” is something that could be actively discouraged depending on the faire. Trinket trading is poo-poo’ed at many.
@justlanchenАй бұрын
That’s interesting! I’ve enjoyed trading trinkets at every Renaissance festival I’ve attended and I’ve never run into any issues with it. I’ve never heard of it being restricted by curators prior to filming either, so maybe it’s just handled differently at the festivals I’ve been to
@reneesteeves3698Ай бұрын
@@justlanchen that’s a possibility. I know its actively discourage at Maryland.
