Thanks for the knowledge, I already knew how to season a frying pan. 🙂, and now I know how to season a gold pan. Great video. Can't wait to get out there and have a go at gold panning. 👍

carl ordiway I had never sampled the spot where I set the pan down. Was shocked when I found gold in it.

Silver Sleuth I’ve been panning paydirt all winter think I’m ready to seek the famous Michigan fly poop! Lol

carl ordiway I went to Lake Michigan this morning with four 5 gallon buckets. I filled each one 1/2 full with black sand and hauled home. I carried each one over 100yds, and uphill. Talk about a work out!!!! Now to figure out the best way to work it and produce a video. 🤔

Great method but also remember to use a finer grate of dirt, beach sand is the best if you can get your hands on it

How do you know for sure it is gold? I just started panning, and have been getting many tiny, shiny specks in my pan with the black sand. How does one confirm what it really is? Thanks
@spencehewitt Жыл бұрын
I know this was a while back... But a couple tips for you. Get that shiny stuff into sunlight. If you put it into shadow again, it will still glow even in the shadow. Other tip depending on size, try to squeeze it between pliers. If it cracks or gets crushed, it's probably pyrite. If it doesn't crack or is malleable, it's gold. Part of this is experience, gold just acts differently in the pan too.

@john fint lots of gold in the rivers around there. They find bigger gold in the rogue. Grand Rapids got its name from the big rapids there. 😉

Gold is heavier than black sand and is usually the last thing to move in the pan. If it moves easier than the black sand, it is not gold.
