As much as I enjoy the eccentric leaders of the Soulblight Gravelords, you all deserve to go back to the grave for daring to challenge the Fyreslayers. Wow. As much as I don't like Merciless Blizzard, and amazed that it survived the rule changes, missing that unbind was largely a result of terrible luck. Sorry, Fyreslayers. 18 MWs from a single spell and no blowback is pretty serious business. The current season is very random with the new Lore. Get back to it, Fyreslayers. You'll get your wins.

Blizzard makes things especially unbalanced when someone is running a list like Ridge had. Nulsidian Icon is 100% necessary. Unfortunately FS aren't quite good enough to just be able to bring whatever you want; Lofnir gets crushed by things like this.

when you see 3 magmadroths in a game you know the result before play the game. i cant believe how is posible magmadroths with save4 and no wards,median 12 damage and nothing extra cost 300/320 when other armys for this cost have monsters with save3 and ward save,around 15 damage and many usefull habilitys. magmadroths must get save3 or ward 5 to be balanced or get reduced to 240 points as the t rex of serafon that have 100% same stats than magmadroths for 80 less points. plz try now with 2" range lists with spam vulkites,2 flamekeepers and some hearthguard.that must be more balanced than the useless magmadroths

I hate seeing 3 Droths also, because so many good combos get left out. Also, the Infernoth doesn’t have to move to keep it alive late game. Sure it can’t do damage if it doesn’t move, but can strategically planned as a big roadblock against units who can’t end past it.

I always get demoralized when I see army at the start of a Fyreslayers video includes 3 Magmadroths. Armies bringing 3 units w/ 2 reinforced of single unit for ~750 drives me nuts. Bringing ~1000 points of it is even worse.

Really hope knights go down more, they got a very unjustified nerf and are now back to what they were when the book dropped. With them being 210 I'm finding it really hard to justify running kastelai which makes me sad.

I think Kastelai can have some play now with the lower points. Legion of Night and Vyrkos are still better though, with Legion of Blood coming in third. But my Kastelai list went down like 90 points. I like to take Vhordrai and a generic Vengorian lord with Fragment of the keep for that -1 to wound.

For Seize by Force: You have to have fewer Objectives. First turn: You both had 1 Objective. So the BT was rigged by the beginning.

Soo, about the debate on blizzard. First of all i agree it should be 3xd6. However i think people are blowing it out of proportion. First of all, you didnt mention once the fact that he actually forgot the spell and didnt try to play around the range. Second, fyreslayer priests can take an artefact that blocks spells in a 12inch bubble. I just dont like the onesided cryfest about blizzard all the time. Nobody ever talks about playing around it or human error, which i find a little annoying.

As I stated earlier in another reply, should we be taking out or nerfing every spell or ability like it as well? The potential to lose a key piece to poor positioning is part of the game. Almost every army has a type of ability that can just wipe out an opposing army without anything being done. The amount of IDK games that just end in top of 3 is a perfect example.

I've said it before: Blizzard is balanced, but a game needs to be more than balanced - it also needs to be enjoyable. Blizzard isn't fun for anyone involved and it doesn't add anything tactically interesting. Playing around it is mostly just a case of measuring a distance from a wizard - and if you're off by even an inch you can get punished far out of proportion to the seriousness of the tactical error in any other context. Single effects or dice rolls should never be that swingy and tactical misplays should be punished in proportion to the scale of the error. I bounced off 40k8 because of the "Your units aren't sufficiently screened against 9" charges. I rolled an above average charge roll and now the game's over" nature of gameplay. 40k vets will tell you that melee wasn't metagame-defining in that edition and shooting was stronger, but that was between players who routinely deployed in silly Napoleonic squares and skirmishing conga lines with models exactly 2" apart. Even when I knew to do that it's not a way to play a game I was interested in engaging with, when I want to play a wargame that resembles something you might see on a battlefield rather than a worker placement game entirely about playing to the minutiae of the mechanics. Blizzard isn't at the same level but it's the same "Do the thing my way or suffer" school of design that doesn't make the game fun for the people willing and able to play that way and can actively turn off the people who don't think that measuring exact ranges is what they want to focus their gaming energy on. While GW has had a stated goal of limiting how often specific universal enhancements are taken, because when they're too ubiquitous they undermine faction distinctiveness, they haven't tried to apply that to the spell lore and 'which faction shall we play next?' polls aren't that interesting when the options often boil down to "The one with Blizzard vs. the other one with Blizzard". This game was advertised at the start as hoping to showcase Soulblight with Blood Knights following their points drop, but what Blood Knights did or didn't do ended up being all but irrelevant (though granted the list still had Grave Guard, which outperform every other Soulblight unit as efficient damage dealers and wear Hoarfrost better than anything else). Of course Blizzard or no Blizzard it was optimistic to expect that Fyreslayers would now be in a spot when they could hang with a top-tier army, even one deliberately hampering itself to an extent. Perhaps the new battlescroll debut should have showcased an army like Cities against Soulblight instead.

Are we just going to get rid of or nerf every spell or ability that has the potential to one shot a key piece? Watching my finest hour + mystic shield carnosaur die to Bolt Boyz spiking their roll was devastating and that I had ZERO chance against. It was a subpar casting roll. What about losing Kroak to a double shooting of Bow Snakes and biffing the bodyguard rolls? Should that be taken out? How do you change it without making it completely useless? Remove the movement restrictions but make it D3’s? A spike on that is still 12 so can kill a lot.

The difference is that blizzard is available to all factions, so it’s almost an auto include in so many armies. The examples you gave are things that make factions dangerous, and are at least balanced with something. Blizzard has to go

No one likes having a game decided by a swingy, and usually overpowered, ability. But we don’t hear the level of complaining about the faction ones. They probably didn’t touch it because it’s going soon anyways and the restrictions they placed on it were supposed to keep things honest and force you to be smart

@@canadaborn1620 we do though, and they are often nerfed. Just look at the sce dragons when they were brought out, as an example. At least the internal faction balance means there’s typically some points or other less powerful part, which just doesn’t exist with blizzard. I’m not saying that some things aren’t OP (I’ve been on the receiving end of skaven warp lightning cannon shenanigans more than once), but this just seems game breaking with so many armies running it. It’s damage output makes it too tempting to not take, which just makes too many wizards too samesie
