@remcoveenendaal26075 жыл бұрын
MrSealyP i like your how to videos, i learn a lot from them, but because you had more milk at the end with the cows you stopped giving tmr, i did the test myself. I put 5 holsteins and 5 ayshers with tmr and straw and 5 ayshers with straw and silage in a seperate pasture. As soon as 1 of the cows was pregnant, i sold the rest of the cows in the pasture, leaving me with one cow each. But because they did not get pregnant at the same time, i sold the last adult cow as soon as the young one was 0.3 years old, this way i could see how much milk each cow produced in that period. My finding was that the holstein ,like you already tested, was the most productive cow for milk, i got about 1000 liter more at the end then the number 2, which was the aysher with the tmr, which got about 100 liter more than the one with the silage. Again i really like your videos, keep up the good work.
@remcoveenendaal26075 жыл бұрын
Maybe the reason that the cows with the hay/silage had a higher milk production than the one with the tmr, is they had more births at the beginning and therefor more cows to start producing milk.

@SSGSNAKE15 жыл бұрын
Seams kind of like tmr is a feed they need for health. However, it may be you don’t need to fill it up or give them as much. Meaning only give them a little to keep health up and let them run out of it and feed off the hay and silage as their primary food source and then just a little more tmr every so often to keep health up. Might be cheaper in the long run anyhow for the dairy cows.
@crazof27005 жыл бұрын
Good information, like you said a longer term test is probably needed. All your starting cattle started off the same so 1 year doesn't show much difference, how the young grow under the various conditions will show the difference more as time goes on, time for part 2 looking at the herd every 6 months for multiple years.

The new cattle pasture mod that has been released although it is designed for beef cattle I have found to be really useful for dairy also to reduce cost. First season of the dairy herd they have gone out into this pasture then come into a barn a day or so before the first one calves. Slight downside theres no manure but massive saving in time and food. Then I'm putting the calves back into the pasture in the spring of season 2 when the grass has regrown. It also makes having a livestock trailer worthwhile! Great series on seasons.

I’m curious to see after watching the cows you stopped feeding TMR out produce the cows you only feed TMR if it’s best to feed them TMR in the winter and during the summer months feeding them Hay/ Silage or maybe even just grass is the most cost effective way to run your dairy cows. Just a thought I wanted to share thank you for your time you spend on making these how too video’s they are much appreciated
@Voliere-infoNl3 жыл бұрын
in summer its allways most cost efficient just to let them "graze" their pasture. Thats 0 cost and 0 work. for them to get full grass through.
@Baerenpapa0075 жыл бұрын
About the amount of slurry/manure they produce: I think that is proportional to the amount of feed they take: the more you put in at the front - the more will come out at the rear. ;) Looking at their breeding circle you have to admit, that once they had their first calve and you finally start getting milk from them - their price should rise immensly (I'd say it should almost double up)! Why? Because at that state you already put in a year of work and money into them without getting anything from them, so in fact the first year is always a total loss! They start making money the second year! So from the point on when they start giving milk they indeed are much much more valuable - somebody buying one of these cows can start making money immedeatly instead of putting in money for a year first - that fact must be reflected in their price and one should be able to buy cows that produce milk from the word go!

Hi, I have 3 questions. 1. what is the best feeding method for milk? 2. which one should I take for a lot of milk? holstein or ayrshire? 3. which one is better? manure or slurry?

Very informative video MrSealyP. You've answered a few of my questions in this video. Interesting tests and reults. I also realize the amount of work that goes into one of these videos and we appreciate all of what you do to keep information as accurate as you can. I was wondering about the whole solid manure vs slurry thing but I've always just fed my cows everything including straw for bedding so that explains why I've gotten no slurry. Payoff from solid manure is fine and personally I think it's kinda nice having to deal with one or the other

I'd plan on holding the male calves as beef stock, and treat them like beef cattle - so save for a year. Then if you're strapped at start up - maybe go with hay for a while, add TMR when you can afford to get a mixed and the like. Also no big deals, until they give birth (as birth rate is random), maybe stay off TMR until the calving starts.
@DeBe9995 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. Especially the part where you feed cows in gestation or dry period no TMR. My way of doing it is using 2 or 3 pens. 1 for the producing cows, tmr and the like. One for calves, no tmr nor straw and one for cows in gestation or on their 2 month dry period, no tmr but since I had a lot of straw I wanted to gain the manure from them.

Important FS19 Seasons game mechanic note regarding cow fertility. During the dairy calving gestation cycle, there is roughly a 25% probability of a non-heifer fertile cow will foster a BULL. It is not purely random, nor is the fertility period, as fertility requires the cow to be a minimum of 2 years of age, meaning the first calf will not be at 9 months after purchase as these are still heifers. Watch the video closely. However, the bull when it reaches maturity CANNOT sire cows. Essentially, it becomes a "steer" for beef production. In the real world, many dairy farmers often sell male calves immediately, as it is not efficient for long term milk production, as they take up needed space, time, and added feed requirements.
@Voliere-infoNl3 жыл бұрын

Has anyone else had problems associated with transporting animals on Greenwich Valley? It’s caused an issue where none of the vehicles will work. Just had to reinstall the game. Gutted. If someone knows what I did to cause this or how to avoid it I’d appreciate some advice. Thanks.
@The_Black_Knight5 жыл бұрын
You were extreme with reinstalling the game. It is not always the map, but a modded placeable animal enclosure or a modded transport, or a problem with a trigger height when placing the animal pen. The function to relocate animals is dependent on all three factors, and many maps were updated quite some time ago. What you should have done is start a new game save, do not delete the old one, use the same map, place down a stock game animal pen, load up some animals at the animal dealer onto a stock trailer, show interactive markers, and attempt to unload. If it does not work, it's the map, and you have eliminated two factors immediately. Always TEST new mods AWAY from your important saved games as basic guidance.
@ukoutdoors30225 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response. Reinstalling didn’t work anyway, I loaded the game save after reinstall and still the same issue. The only mod involved was the animal trailer, which I’ve used on other maps with no problems. The animal (pig) pen is the one built into the map. I’ve uninstalled the trailer still no joy. Oh well you live and learn. At least I’ve freed up some memory by not reinstalling some of the mods I don’t use.

Can I start seasons with my live stock in place? Will loose my Bales?
@DeBe9995 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is that vanilla has no breed specific cattle. So I don't know what kind of breed the game will select out of the seasons options. (I presume Holstein for some reason). You can always try, turn autosave off, and see what happens I guess. They advise doing so after all your fields are harvested, because otherwise you lose all your crop.
@The_Black_Knight5 жыл бұрын
Review the FS19 Seasons manual. Prep your saved game. Hard backup your saved game on a USB drive. It is recommended to reduce your stock before activating seasons. This prevents issues. Livestock in place works fine, if you understand the breeds. You dont loose bales, but they will begin to rot if not under cover. You can retain your field crops as an option, but I recommend "sanitation" of your fields to avoid game issues. There is no 100% guarantee you saved game will not have problems because there are literally MILLIONS of scenarios based on mods and map configurations.
