Indiana farmer here. Swathing is only used in the far North areas of the USA. it is used to make the grain dry down more it has absolutely 0 effect on yield be it grain or straw produced

North Dakota former farm kid here… the only time my family ever swaths is pretty much just for barley and for the same reason you already mentioned. A lot of the farmers around the area I grew up don’t even swath. And ya… the yield bonus is very unrealistic haha.

Swathing in real life doesn't increase yield in any way. The reason to swath is to kill the plant so it dries quicker, therefore it can be harvested sooner. The only reason to do this is if you would have too many fields ready at the same time or running out of season . In my area, they only swath oats and canola. We've never used a swather on anything else. Hope that helps. In the end, what's in the field is in the field, swathed or not. I think the game just increased the yield so people would use it

Agreed 100% on soybeans, been my go 2 crop in 22 also. This time around however the rice is very nice. The machines needed are cheap and making fields are cheap also. The profit is close to on par with soybeans imo but the machines in total costs less and skip a lot of steps like fertilizer and plow. Using a cultivator i get 50% fert already and the seeder or rice planter is so efficient it uses almost no fertilizer in its planting pushing the 100%. No weeds etc makes it great lit only plant,harvest and cultivate. Soybeans and rice king for me.

Great video, good mehodology in your testing. One question tho, how long did it take for poplar to grow to the ready to harvest state? if its anything over 12 months then its volume per hecter PER YEAR would be halved making it fall significantly. Time to grow is a big factor in determining profitability. for example with grass in 22, if you rolled directly after cutting you reduced the time to regrow to 2 months, meaning you could get 4-5 harvests a year. So all grass, hay, grass silage volume would be multiplied by that figure to give a per year profitability.

beet farming and sugar production should be pretty good, but either get ready for a lot of work or paying a lot of cash to be able to harvest the crops. btw, you cannot simply do a small field and compare it. for example leasing a beet harvester is not profitable on a small field, it becomes profitable with scale.
@Torkkar25 күн бұрын
So for poplar why not use the BIO Bailer? you can store poplar bales in a Bale/pallet storage, and you can use a round bale auto loader to load & move 24 bales at a time, not sure if you can toss the poplar bales in an animal feed mixer to unbale them & load containers, also if storing loose poplar you can load you trucks with belts that pick up from the ground, connect enough belts up and you can slither a full silo empty in a few minutes.

Grains is profitable when you have large fields, cause you can buy giants headers and trailers and hire workers, but in my mind in FS games, more profitable means more pain the buttocks to earn that profit. Any crop that makes u use a harvester that dosent have its own storage tank is an auto disqualification. Everything about Carrot and Parsnip harvesting just screams HELL NO. Not only are u forced to drive a trailer beside it, the harvester also only harvest very few rows making the whole process take way to long. If the harvester dosent have its own storage tank then that crop dosent exist untill the Follow Me mod is up and running again. EDIT: Parsnip can be harvested with a storage tank but only doing like 2 rows is painfully slow.

Swathing in the real world doesn't increase yield, infact it decreases it by a little bit because of losses. Swathing helps to prevent wind damage as crops can get destroyed through wind. If it lays on the ground, wind can't do any harm. We do swathing here in the area that I farm because of possible wind damage. When swathing as well, the crops ripen faster as well.
@ZachW0127Ай бұрын
