How do you remove crank pulley ? Any tools ? Is it possible to remove it with torque wrench? I wonder if it forces to timebelt while turning it to anticlockwise. Maybe harmful.

Ii believe its within 80 to a 100k miles or every five years. I would do research to your specific model though.

Hey great video.... I was just trying to do the job myself in the past weekend but I just couldn´t get the camshaft locking tool in and gave up for now! You say in the video that it could need a little ´help´ Did you need to ´force´ your camshafts towards each other to get it in?:) It says in the manual that you can press down on the belt between the pulleys but what did you do? Thanks for your kind words. I found it easier to get the tool in camshafts before locking crank. If you get someone turning crank ever so slightly backwards and forwards whilst slightly tapping camshaft tool in. A little force and it will go in.

So you dont need the special electric machine for the 1.4 tsi engines

The tool they use is VAS 611 007 and it's expensive set, with a laptop too. Thats also my question. My plan is to change the cambelt myself like in this video and then drive to the VW dealer afterwards for the final timing adjustments to save money. Otherwise, the price is something like 900$ for them without parts to change everything (As I got parts myself for 300$, from SKF) + the 2 required bolts for the 2 camsprocket 10$. I have checked around and there is a small difference in timing with the new belt compared to the old. The difference in timing can sometimes, over time, cause fuel efficiency issues and also weaker engine.

But I haven't asked them yet (VW dealer) how much is the cost to do a timing adjustment with VAS 611 007... maybe something like between 100-300$ (I think) My belt has gone 180.000 km the problem is it is over 11 years old and I fear it will break even if it looks really good. The 2 camsprocket bolts I got directly from VW as this is something I would not have for aftermarket.

Also, forgot to mention, the difference in timing can also, in rarer cases cause fault code (Cam timings correlation fault) And also, a check engine light.
