I came across a leather car seat restitching video which I watched because it seemed interesting. That lead to some others, and then to yours. I have to say that yours was the most clearly and completely explained and illustrated by your video work. Your repair was also the most professional looking of all of them.

I agree - great simple instructions! Used your video to repair a seam on the back cushion of my boat. The existing thread was in pretty bad shape. When I tried to tease it out to have 1 inch on each side for the tie off the thread was disintegrating ... but at least I managed to get a little tiny bit out and was able to at least tie a single knot. Great video!

Hey Saab Magic Man! I just seen your SPG on Scotty! I've always loved Saabs! Had a 9-5 Aero! Fastest car on the road! Comfy, roomy and economical! They were always technologically ahead of the pack. Only now the big 3 are using what Saab started..4 cylinder Turbo engines! I still miss Saab. I was sadden to see them go.

I saw you on Scotty!. I’ll be doing a huge leather repair on my driver seat on my 2000 Saab 9-5. I’ll probably have to get a whole new square butt piece and sew it in. the leather on the car otherwise is in great condition and still going. Thanks for the Saab content.

Ooh, burying the tail is a fantastic trick, I usually just tie like 4 different knots and then cut it short but it's definitely way better to leave a tail so I'll adapt to your suggestion in the future!

So I saw your link on the kit from Amazon , is that what you used ? Will need nose be fine to help fish thread through ? If the holes in the leather are broke , do you make new ?
@saabmagicman25883 жыл бұрын
TBH, it’s difficult to find strong curved needles. If holes are broken, you need to make new ones directly behind. In that case, a really strong straight needle is best. Needle nose pliers work fine.

What about a HEAVIER LEATHER seat (Rav 4) where seam came apart (driver seat) and is 1.5 inches apart? The gap is a lot wider; Not this soft leather with hardly a gap. Do your Principles apply to my situation? : wider tear, hard/ thick leather, where thread holes are absolutely visible?

works fine for heavy leather.

Well, bought a sewing kit and tried this .. epic fail .. I have a classic 900 and the leather is to thick from how you showed . I can’t get the curved needle through the next hole . Further the kit was cheap and the needle broke ! Oye .. the demo makes sense just my seats don’t allow this ..
@kconatymd3 жыл бұрын
Just make all the holes bigger. Take a tapered punch or something and push thru the holes to make them bigger. A really sturdy straight needle will do the trick then. If you are not pushing the needle thru the holes that are too small, it will be easier
