You can't begrudge any angler for taking a fish home, I'm on a river in southern Ireland which is C&R only for 16+ years, everything goes back even if its dead you let it float downstream. If you kept one you will be arrested, gear + car can be taken and a date in court with heavy fines. The trawlers and factory ships are laughing at us all for our dying efforts. Enjoy your fish you are entitled to it. Great video loved it as always 👏

Many thanks, tbh watching a dead fish float downstream would break my heart.

so this stretch..I know really well as this is where my gran lived, I was in the local angling club here , it fishes well all the way down to the camp site. really deep run under the hump back bridge and in spate the stretch just up from the dairy farm used to be great for fish moving up, but good pools all the way upstream as well into the old prisoner of war camp and to the road bridge before you hit the lambley waters...all my holiday were spent up here trout fishing and investing the burns off the main river , where there was always some suprising fish that must have never been caught

Nothing wrong with taking the odd fish, especially if it's bleeding. Fantastic eating.
@abakerslife3 ай бұрын
Very true, that one is getting the hot smoked treatment. I was going to keep a salmon this year too provided I caught at least a dozen but even though I had managed more I decided against it because I just couldn't bring myself to chap a salmon. Seatrout in my area are much more plentiful though.

Nice fishing. I see you’ve called your fly the Ginger Baker 🤣 i think he was in Cream ? - is the fly just a silver stoat with an orange bead ?
@abakerslife3 ай бұрын
Yes he was the drummer...well spotted. It's basically a silver stoat yes, very simple and easy to tie.
@TerryUrquhart-v4w3 ай бұрын
@@abakerslife I think there is a different reason for calling it “The Ginger Baker’ though 😂
@wildaboutnewton-le-willows87533 ай бұрын
You did the right thing with the sea trout which are not C and R other than voluntary but with salmon you have to put them back dead as some would chap them and claim they were bleeding. It is sad but not the norm most we can return safely
@abakerslife3 ай бұрын
That is true and the most important factor in salmon conservation is that anglers are out fishing for them otherwise who would care about protecting them?
