INCIDENT DESCRIPTION
At 6:13 pm on April 10, 2024, the Seattle Fire Department responded to a rescue extrication incident at S Spokane St. & 1st Ave. S.
Based on archive footage captured by the SafetyVid platform, one car likely ran a red light. This is not the first time a similar crash has happened at this intersection. Several months ago, a nearly identical wreck occurred, but fortunately nobody was seriously injured. I'll link the footage to that crash below. Who ran the red light in this case isn't known. Regardless, the larger pickup truck inflicted heavy damage on the sedan, entrapping and injuring the sedan's passenger. There did not appear to be any other serious injuries. According to the SFD Fire Alarm Center (dispatch), an off-duty firefighter found the collision and reported it to 911.
The Seattle Fire Department's heavy rescue company, Rescue 1, happened to be just one minute away, and arrived very soon after being dispatched, along with Aid 14, a BLS unit staffed by Rescue 1. The extrication was completed essentially alone by Rescue 1 as other units arrived. Battalion 5 took command of the incident, while Battalion 7 was assigned . Engine 13 pulled a precautionary pre-connect hose as standard, and Medic 32 provided patient care and transport. Ladder 11 and Engine 36 were also seen on scene. Medic 44 (EMS supervisor) and Safety 2 were dispatched, but not seen in the video. It's very likely they were off-screen, as they would be approaching from the north rather than the south.
The patient was extricated, backboarded, and transported to Harborview Medical Center by Medic 32. Though the patient was initially said to be unconscious, the patient was found conscious by Rescue 1. The patient's condition is unknown. I have not found any further information on the incident.

BEHIND THE SCENES
This is the first vehicle extrication I've captured on camera, and the first full-speed extrication I've seen. I've recorded extrication demonstrations in Kitsap County, but those were at a casual pace. This is a full-speed priority extrication.
The bystanders and parties involved are purposely left unedited to make their roles unclear.

I’m currently attending an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Academy and to watch First Responders doing what we are learning about is fascinating! Incredible teamwork and efficiency. These people are not recognized enough. Great video, thanks for posting! And a big shout-out to the Dispatchers, too!! 🙌❤️❤️ Unsung heroes! 💙❤️🇺🇸❤️💙

Great footage! That was a fast, efficient extrication (not that we'd expect anything else from the R1 pros).

I won't be sharing the footage of the impact (not a good angle anyway) for privacy, but I can share a crash that looked eerily similar: Same intersection, similar speeds, same situation. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured in this collision. Credit to Lucas for the sharing and SafetyVid for the archiving: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onKympmgicqYoq8si=8rwNWyesnJ_kdVkL&t=190
