Sooo just yall know A Tribe Called Quest is one of the most successful Music Groups in history. All 6 of there albums went Golden Plantinum and they have just been Inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. The majority of humans will never ever achieve what A Tribe Called Quest has achieved

Check the Rime isn’t atonal lacking a key center. The key center shifts from bar to bar like a jazz song a modulation. Early 90’s, particularly East Coast Hip Hop, was based on Jazz. Fun fact QTip was mentored by Weldon Irvine a very influential jazz musician.

Tribe called quest fan here since 94 but you two brothers are literally teaching me how to appreciate the back ground beats... I love jazz so naturally I loved east coast hip-hop in the 90s because they always sampled jazz and the fact you two brothers are making me appreciate the back ground tones is much appreciated.. much love young kings.. thank you

Lol .. The song went #1 on the rap hot charts ... (half million copies sold - went gold) ... Here's a live performance .. A Tribe Called Quest with Brand New Heavies - Check The Rhyme (YO! MTV Raps Spring Break 1992) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6XRpKSAp6uonMksi=s9MdPyOWXfPVlBlA (to be perform in a Coffee Shop Lol) You know how big MTV Spring Break was {Every College kid was at that location}... Memories of the 1st time I heard "Check The Rhime" was in Kingston Jamaica (1991) at an uptown session (party) on big sound system -- blew me away how great it sounded (Loved it) ... Respect to you guy for listening to music that was my life in the 90's (still listening to ATCQ , De La Soul & Digiable Planets in 2024)
@jaydubbxperiod Жыл бұрын
The problem here is that you're bringing math equations to a party. It's about the feel! The change up is anchored rhythmically. The drums and horns and the 808 that kicks in carry it there. The "chaos" adds to the hype before the mellow main groove comes back for the rhymes.. And if you chase the producers of that era trying to figure how they did what they did w those short sample times you'll go crazy!
@BehindTheBeatReactions Жыл бұрын
The chaos is totally hype!

By the way to the hater on the left......... There's plenty of live footage of them online and it's amazing that you have live drum sets, stand up bass..... everything........ My opinion is that maybe it's meant to just get into the rhythm like your friend and just sort of feel The beat...... Don't have to analyze everything like a professor sometimes it just sounds good and the rhythm is Good....... I'm not trying to be negative but that's my comment on this video as A tribe called quest fan since the late 80s

i say this in all sincerity... listen to the song again. but actually LISTEN, uninterrupted and without attempting to pick apart what individual instruments are doing. just listen to the SONG. there is a solid, very simple, drum beat that remains constant and uninterrupted throughout the whole song. the other elements shift around it, but that drum beat NEVER changes. there are even a few points where the drums pause, but the beat doesn't change, and it kicks right back in as your toes hit the floor if that's how you're keeping time with the beat. like i said, it's a Jazz thing. i'd probably describe it as hanging on to a rope in the middle of a tornado. even when everything's being whipped around seemingly 'atonally' (you'd probably conclude), the line that you are hanging on to remains constant. in this case, it's that drum beat, but they also make incredible use of the jazz bass for the same purpose in other songs. whatever the central theme, the play around that is a big part of what defines Jazz, and what influences a lot of Hip Hop. give it another listen. bobbing your head or tapping your feet with the drums helps.

Tribe Called Quest are called The Beatles of Rap. They have influenced producers like J Dilla, Pharell or Kanye West. Live video you are watching has sad story. Phife Dawg was diabetic and after this performance on tv, he was rushed to hospital. Sadly he passed away few years ago. PEACE! BTW Pac is not rap BB KING. He is soo overated. If you are looking for great lyricist I would suggest you to check : MF DOOM , BIG L.
