A law that bans caste is not Hinduphobic. It is an improvement on Hinduism, a real reform. Only evil people want to continue to have the power to oppress others just because they come from so called lower caste. Just because you haven't experienced caste based discrimination doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I haven't faced caste discrimination directed towards me but I have seen it happening many times. Honestly, everyone speaks their mind but only in their safe space because they know it has been criminalised and saying something casteist will put them in trouble. So, they usually never say it in public but I a group where there are only upper caste people (Our last names indicate our caste you don't even need to ask someone's caste to know their caste. You know when you are in the safe space). The most common is I would say usage of casteist slurs. This happened when I was in college. One of my very senior professor, whom I used to respect a lot because he was so good at teaching his subject (he always sounded like a wise, smart old man), used a casteist slur against SC people and said we should never pass through the area where they live as they are untouchables. I was stunned but everyone was normal as if nothing happened. Second and another most common thing I hear is when people say that SC people can never excel in studies as this is not their "fitrat", unka dimag kabhi padhai me lagega nahi kyunki unki formation hi different Hui hai, different kaam k liye Hui hai (here they were talking about the low academic performance of many SC kids ignoring that most of them come from underprivileged homes). Another very common casteist/classist act is keeping separate utensils for maids, some societies even have separate lifts for them. Here also, I hear a lot that people don't want a cook from an SC caste because they doubt their cleanliness habits. Talk to the aunties in your society, this as actually very common. Apart from this, there are many incidents in news on casteism. It is a superiority complex that is never going to end. If you ask an upper caste person to ditch their caste indicative last name they will most likely refuse. On the contrary, you will see people flaunting their caste on vehicles. No, flaunting caste on vehicle is not discrimination but that shows the superiority complex the person has in their mind.

To add to what you've told, the feeling of superiority and the demeaning of a particular community goes the other way round as well. Twenty years back when I was in journalism school in Hyd, a guest lecturer came and bashed brahmins as the dirtiest, most disloyal and unpatriotic and also fit for nothing. That's when I realised this hoax about discrimination coming from just one side. Everyone likes to think they are God's special people and the rest are shit. This will only work if ridiculing any community stops and a general awareness against discrimination of any kind is encouraged.

Discrimination against Brahmims isn't possible, despite being a tiny minority, just 4 % of the total population, Brahmims are disproportionately over represented in the upper echelons of various social, political and economic institutions across the country. You cannot discriminate against a community that holds so much power and privilege. Sure you can call Brahmims names, but it's like dogs barking at elephants, it's simply does not do any harm to the status quo of Brahmims..

It's just a law against discrimination. They just included caste to the list. The list already has stuff like religion, race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation. The fact that Hindus are there and have a caste identity, providing protection from discrimination is the obvious thing to do. If you discrimination isn't a problem (allegedly) then this doesn't make it a problem. Having the law on the books is just added protection.

Similarly this law is only for those who practice casteism not for others. Really caste based .. I think being North Indian what I am facing right now is region based discrimination. It took me 11 months to get a job with all kind of IT work experience and certifications and skills whereas all these South Indian Telegu and Tamils are hiring people from their own regions. Look at the profiles and skills at some of the companies where these people are running Organizations as a Mafia. You can’t even have a single chance of join that Organization if you are not Telegu or Tamil. They are putting their non-deserving wives sisters with all kind of fake and fraud degrees.

There are so many wrong statements here. You make it sound like Indians run the tech industry. In reality, tech industry is a multi-tiered highly diverse industry with many companies and players from all cultural groups. Indians make only a fraction of this, and we are not some secret gang that controls the tech industry. This is a silly and potentially harmful trope. Plus, the majority of indians in US do not identify with their native caste- they actually come to US to leave that behind. Finally, caste discrimination is extremely rare among Indian-Americans and most instances are actually from non-Indians to Indians. Please read Carnegie survey for actual data. There have been 0 proven charges of casteism in USA, this is hardly an issue there. Please stop trying to create identity politics, it is harmful.

Who will sensitise the police regarding caste? Not accepting the problem is the root cause of the problem. @@cloudless_night There have been attempts to prove caste discrimination, they have all failed because the case was weak. Indians leave caste when they leave India. Look at Fiji, Suriname, trinidad, Indonesia, Singapore. Indians/hindus live there and theres no caste system. It only exists in India because politicians exploit it for votes. If they erased the caste system from the law, then caste would disappear after 20 years just like everywhere else. I don't have a caste so how can you accuse me of upper caste privilege. I don't believe in that nonsense and I live in Canada where there's no caste system. You're the problem here, you just play victim card your whole life thinking there's a caste conspiracy against you for everything.

I live in the US. Move here from India 6 years ago. Never saw caste discrimination in Mumbai. But I must tell anyone watching this video, caste discrimination is prevelant in America. Actually when I was in Mumbai I was ignorant of how much caste identity still plays a role in traditional parts of India. Since America has people from all over India, ironically I learned more about us Indian in America. Caste discrimination is blot on Hindu society. It is the main reason why people leave Hinduism. Standing against this law is like supercharging peoples disillusionment with Hinduism. This is not Hinduphobic at all. I'm saying this as a proud Hindu. Lets remove Hinduism from the clutches of Brahminism.

What is Brahminism? Is it not a statement without logic and it involved hatred. I have seen many anti hindu dalits without logics and knowing hinduism blame everything on the religion. There isn't a statement of discrimination on the basis of birth/ caste in scriptures and in fact The definition is very clear on the basis of virtues and work. In thousands of years society become corrupt and these things started because people stopped following vedas and still today anybody can misuse dalits against hinduism because nobody have read vedas himself. It' s clear plan to make dalit, minority against hindus instead of clearing things and efoorts to unite. Secularism has been promoted over the years but not caste free india so that it can be used forever. Even Dalits discriminate among non jatav dalits and STs but upper class dalits never accept it and blame everything on brahmins who do more intercaste marriages than dalits acc to survey(search to get details). It's easy to spread hatred and play victim card always rather than seeing the reality of ouselves.

I was born in India but did not belong to any caste. I still suffered discrimination at school, sports and social venues. I remember my folks riding bicycles (we could not afford cars) for miles and during summer being refused a drink of water at Hindu temples. It must still exist. Why look elsewhere?

Caste system is indeed a huge, huge problem in India. Reservations into all levels of government offices, state and national institutes, etc..., are a menace as it deprives the 'merit' to be awarded and complacency to continue. Reservations were to be temporary for 15 years after independence. It must be removed, like the temporary provision of Article 370 was abolished in J&K.

I visit US regularly and used to live there. There have been 0 proven caste discrimination charges that led to convictions in entire US, while Indians have been there for 100 years. Caste is not a form of identity there among broad population, nor is caste a recognized identity. Even among Indians, only a fraction still acknowledge their caste identity and even smaller fraction actually care about caste identity of others. Carnegie Mellon survey shows most self reported caste discrimination occurs by non-Indians to Indians. This is a redundant law as civil rights codes already protect religion, race, social class (caste is a subset of these). All this does is propagate hinduphobia (as one can see in these comments) and advances the false narrative that caste (a Portuguese word, not even a sanskrit word) is a Hindu phenomenon when modern day caste system is due to colonial British classifying Indian people. This is just a political ploy by Seattle to look like "allies" with a "marginalized" group. It's a classic play by left, as stoking divisions is part of their business model (it fuels their journalism, activism, political, university scholarship and human resources endeavors).

Caste-based discrimination is very real in the USA because a lot of upper caste/brahmins work in IT and other industries as well as in education. Not every person in this world is born in a privileged home, but only low caste Hindus always play caste card rather than working hard. There have been 0 proved cases of caste discrimination in US for past 100 years. It is minimally practiced there, please read Carnegie survey for more details. Plus this law is redundant. Religion, race, creed, social class (of which caste is a subset) are protected under US civil rights code. This is like passing a specific law banning forced conversions to Islam or forced hijab wearing or anti-Shia discrimination. Such law is redundant as US civil code already has provisions for such actions but also unfairly singles out a specific demographic.

Well, I can foresee a couple of problems with this. 1) Nobody outside of the Indian community has any idea what 'caste' anyone hails from, so we are at the mercy of Indians to tell us when caste discrimination is occurring in the USA, and would have to figure out who to believe. I'm just sure we'll always get that one right. 2) The BJP, already not a fan of the US, is going to take this as an attack on Hindus, or at least sell it to the Indian people as such. (God help me, if the BBC decides to do a documentary about caste discrimination in the US, Modiji will never speak to the US again.....)

People in western countries are only passingly aware of caste issues in India, so they're not seeing the threat that this move has introduced into the US system. This rule can be used similar to sexual discrimination, or harrasment laws to bring down a high achieving individual, for example like Sundar Pichai. Caste considerations have completely fractured the Indian society. Despite removing caste discrimination since1947, GOI made a mistake of allowing quotas within education and employment for previously lower caste- incentives which now have reached alarming proportions, even touching 50%. Nobody who has had a privilege, even if they unfortunately have to call themselves as 'lower caste', wants to give it up. Its such people who have jumped queues to reach western shores, who wish to continue to fracture the Indian diaspora there.
