KING 5 STILL has the BEST NEWSCASTS to this day! KIRO's news is not what it used to be and KOMO just plain SUCKS now! KSTW doesn't have one anymore and Q13 FOX didn't have any newscasts until 1998.

So I'm guessing that KSTW Channel 11 was Seattle's choice for news at 10 o'clock before KCPQ Channel 13, better known as Q13 FOX, stepped in to become that choice for prime time news!

Yeah that's exactly right. KSTW CH 11 was a popular channel back in the day. Lot of Seattle history. The popular kid's show Brakeman Bill was aired on Ch 11.

KIRO had that new look in what appears to be November of 1989 and then changed the branding to "KIRO News" from "Eyewitness News" a month later. I guess the Fox design firm had a heluvla time dealing with their constant tinkering with their identity because there was another reimage by May of 1991. During that timeframe, the font used in the opens went from Diot to Helvetica, possibly in 1990.

Now also...Ffrom looking at past videos posted, and from memory of the early-mid 90s... Looks like maybe Rich Marriott replaced Chuck Weise at KING, and Shelley Monahan went over to Spokane, first at KREM, then KHQ. Whatever happened to John Miller though?

KIRO had the best open here, even though during this era they were #3 in the ratings. Today, KOMO and KIRO look good, but KING is still trying to figure out how to utilize their downsized studio near T-Mobile Park. Really one of the worst sets in all of Tegna.

There are some of us who beg to differ, especially considering the fact KOMO wins more awards journalistically nearly every year than KING or KIRO combined. The last three years KOMO has swept the Emmys. No other television station in Seattle can hold a candle to the innovation KOMO has brought forth.
